There are wines with a following and then there are wines that, like Tolkien’s infamous three rings, are so precious their followers will go to any length to possess the wine—and Cakebread Cellars inspires this kind of fierce devotion and loyalty. Cakebread Cellars is one of Napa Valley’s most famous, family-owned and operated wineries and the owners are just as dedicated to culinary arts as they are to wine making. The symbiotic connection between food and wine is evident in the food-friendly character of their wines, thanks to the skill of longtime winemaker Julianne Laks. She makes wines that are deeply soulful with nuanced aromas and flavors that beg to be served with a fine meal.
