Bruce Jenner, now known as Caitlyn Jenner, has made an appearance on the cover of Vanity Fair magazine, introducing his new feminine self to the world. Since the photo was released, social media and other communications have come to share in many discussions about the topic. Even President Obama got in on the discussion. According to Time, He was quoted as tweeting, “It takes courage to share your story.”
The discussions regarding the long time coming sex change for Bruce Jenner, now known as Caitlyn, range from those of praise to a variety of others. Some people have concluded that it is a disgrace to God for having made this change, citing that God does not make mistakes. Others feel that it is all a big publicity stunt to rake in large sums of money. Of course, this type of makeover is very expensive, so any proceeds from publicity would most likely go to cover the medical bills for plastic surgeries, hormone treatments, and whatever else has been involved. A controversy over what type of sex life Bruce/Caitlyn will live in the future has been a part of the debate, as well.
This author has no particular opinion, one way or the other, about the change made by Bruce Jenner to become a woman. This was his own personal decision. It does not fall onto others to place judgment. This is where God comes in. It is only God Who has the final say. He is the one to judge the lives of the humans He created. Whether a sin has been committed will be determined by Him. God gave human beings free will. This gives each person the right to a choice. This choice is always available to each person, in deciding how to live one’s life. For some, this choice is whether to marry or to stay single. For others, it is whether to have children or not. People make choices throughout their lives. Some may turn out to be mistakes. God allows people to make mistakes, as this provides learning opportunities. If those who err in decision-making believe in God, ask for His assistance and guidance, it will come with time. Mistakes can be turned around into wonderful opportunities, if allowed to happen. Proverbs 16: 9 says, “The human mind plans the way, but the Lord directs the steps,” (The New Revised Standard Version Bible, 1989, New York, NY: American Bible Society). This passage provides for free will. Once the choice is made, it is then up to God to determine judgment. Romans 9: 16 says, “So it depends not on human will or exertion, but on God who shows mercy,” (The New Revised Standard Version Bible, 1989, New York, NY: American Bible Society).
Whether for or against the change, Caitlyn Jenner will live life as she chooses. Those close to her can be accepting of her as she is, or reject her. This is the case no matter what sort of life decision a person makes. Some choices are more obvious than others.
