According to Daniel Austin of the Calgary Sun on Thursday, Calgary native Andrew Buckley of the University of Calgary Dinos won his second consecutive Hec Crighton Trophy which is presented to the best player in Canadian University Football. Buckley set the Canadian Interuniversity Sport regular season record for most passing yards with 3162.
Buckley also set a Canada West record in completing 72% of his pass attempts. He also had 400 or more yards in five of his eight games played during the regular season. Buckley also had an excellent touchdown to interception ratio. He had 19 touchdown passes compared to one interception.
The Dinos meanwhile went undefeated during the Canada West football regular season. They had a perfect record of eight wins and zero losses but then lost to the University of British Columbia Thunderbirds 34-26 in the Hardy Trophy on Saturday, November 14 at McMahon Stadium in Calgary.
Meanwhile, Dinos head coach Wayne Harris Jr. was named the Canadian Interunversity Sport coach of the year. In being named coach of the year, Harris Jr. won the Frank Tindall Trophy. The Dinos were the only university football team to come away with two people on their team to win national awards.
