Brooke Baldwin knows that women, at times, can be downright catty and cruel. The CNN Newsroom host thus spent a few minutes dissing the ladies on The View panel for their disparaging comments about GOP candidate Carly Fiorina. The former Hewlett-Packard CEO has already had to stomach Donald Trump mocking her looks, and now an assemblage of daytime talk women sling some juvenile barbs her way.
Reports The Wrap on Oct. 30: “While discussing Wednesday’s Republican debate, the ABC daytime talk show panel consisting of Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Michelle Collins, Paula Faris and Raven-Symone joked that Fiorina’s ‘face could be a Halloween mask,’ because it looked ‘demented.’”
Brooke Baldwin didn’t like that, and called out the hypocrisy. “I saw something today that angered me, not just as a journalist, but as a woman,” the 36-year-old news anchor said. She then showed a clip of the women on The View laughing it up at Fiorina’s expense, mocking her for what appeared to be a conscious effort by Carly to smile more during the most recent GOP debate, says the Huffington Post.
“She looked demented,” said co-host Michelle Collins. “Her mouth did not downturn one time.” Her face “looked like a Halloween mask,” added co-host Joy Behar. After wondering if demented was too strong a word, Whoopi Goldberg weighed in to say it wasn’t.
Baldwin says she “loves” the view, and extolled the comedy of Joy Behar and Whoopi, but then says, “Ladies, come on! Double standard much?” After talking about Trump, she says, “All this yapping about women and appearance…we women can be the worst to one another.”
I know these women on ‘The View’ get called out. So do I. I get it. This is the job we signed up for. But still, we can do better than that. And how do I know this? How do I know I’m not alone? – Brooke Baldwin
Baldwin then shows a previous clip from The View where Trump, on the hotseat – via the phone anyway – explains to the panel why he said this about Fiorina:
“Look at that face!” Trump said to Rolling Stone. “Would anyone vote for that? Can you imagine that, the face of our next president? I mean, she’s a woman, and I’m not supposed to say bad things, but really, folks, come on. Are we serious?”
When Trump tells the View that he’s talking about Fiorina’s “persona,” Behar responds with: “Why don’t you talk about her brain, instead of her face?” To which Brooke Baldwin says, “Amen.”
