On Monday, Bristol Palin took to her blog to skewer RedState’s Erick Erickson for what, in her view, amounts to hypocrisy over Donald Trump and sexist comments. Erickson, as we reported earlier, disinvited Trump from his conservative gathering over controversial remarks he made about Fox News’ Megy Kelly.
But, she said, Erickson didn’t seem too concerned when he published a “demeaning” photo of her mother, former Republican vice presidential nominee and Alaska Gov. Sarah Palin. In 2013, RedState came under fire for an image depicting a busty Palin sitting in Santa’s lap. The image has since been removed from the article, but according to Bristol, Erickson refused to pull it even after being informed it was fake.
She also noted that Erickson “once called Supreme Court justice David Souter ‘the only goat (expletive deleted) child molester to ever serve on the Supreme Court.’” She posted a screenshot of a 2007 tweet sent by Erickson lauding Fox News and Trump’s attack on Rosie O’Donnell. “How awesome is Fox for letting Trump come on and bash Rosie!! Awesome.” As we reported Monday, Erickson said he has apologized for his past comments.
“I don’t endorse everything Donald Trump says or does,” she wrote. “Mainly because I actually have to work for a living and I don’t pay as much attention to politics as professional pundits. But I know that I hate the ‘politics of outrage’ that people engage in.”
It’s a safe bet that Palin has probably experienced more hatred from the “perpetually outraged” than most Americans. In just one example, a 67-year-old Wisconsin man loaded his shotgun and blasted his television set after seeing Palin on “Dancing with the Stars.” The hatred over her DWTS appearance got so bad that she began receiving death threats, including an envelope with a white substance that turned out to be talcum powder.
She provided some perspective over the alleged “outrage” shown by Fox News with two episodes involving her mother. “Back in 2010,” she wrote, “Chris Wallace joked about having my Mom sit on his lap during an interview. In 2011, Roger Ailes said, ‘I hired Sarah Palin because she was hot and got ratings.'”
Now, Megyn Kelly and Fox News say they want to put it all behind them and move on. But Palin said that “Fox and Erickson need to get off their high horse on how outraged they are NOW about sexism and decency.” Instead of seeking accolades from liberal outlets like the New York Times and Media Matters, Palin says Fox News and Erickson should “focus on winning the election.”
