Man Killed in High-Speed DUI Crash
A man is dead and his passenger injured after he lost control of his vehicle, crossed over a raised median and crashed early Saturday morning in Cobb County. Police suspect speed and alcohol contributed to the deadly crash.
The incident happened shortly after 3:35 a.m. on Ernest Barrett Parkway near Macland Road in Marietta, according to Cobb County police. Investigators said 25-year old Deontay T. Webb, of Powder Springs, was driving a green 1998 BMW 328i northbound on Earnest Barrett Parkway just south of Macland Road when he attempted to negotiate a curve and failed.
Webb was negotiating the curve when for unknown reasons he lost control of his vehicle, which then began to rotate before crossing over the raised median into the southbound lanes of travel where it overturned, police spokeswoman Officer Alicia Chilton said. The vehicle then left the western edge of the roadway before coming to a rest on its roof, Chilton said.
Webb and his passenger, 22-year old Ryan L. Daniels, of Powder Springs, were both unrestrained and both were transported to local hospitals, Chilton said. Webb was transported to Wellstar Cobb Hospital where he was pronounced dead and Daniels was transported to Wellstar Kennestone Hospital where he was treated for minor injuries, Chilton said. It’s unclear if Daniels was still in the hospital late Saturday night.
Alcohol and excessive speed are believed to be contributing factors in the crash, Chilton said. Still, police said the investigation is ongoing and are asking anyone with information about this incident to call (770) 499-3987.
