Bryce Mathews felt right at home in Oxford, Mississippi and has become the latest commitment for the Rebels.
“After many long months of thought and prayer I have made the decision to commit to the University of Mississippi. Finally I want to thank Coach Freeze and Coach Luke, I look forward to continuing my relationship with these great men and this great University,” Mathews wrote on his twitter account.
The Brentwood Academy offensive tackle chose Ole Miss over offers from Alabama, Clemson, Louisville, Michigan, Northwestern, Ohio State, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Vanderbilt and Virginia.
Mathews (6-6, 280) is the third Brentwood Academy lineman to commit to an SEC team in the Class of 2016 joining defensive tackle Brandon Adams (Vanderbilt) and fellow offensive lineman Ryan Johnson (Tennessee).
He becomes the 18th commitment for Ole Miss in the Class of 2016 and the third Tennessee commitment in the class joining Cookeville tight end Gabe Angel and Lexington defensive end Lexington Tariqious Tisdale.
Good line play runs in the Mathews family as he is the son of BA offensive line coach Jason Mathews who played in the NFL for over a decade most notably with the Tennessee Titans and played collegiately at Texas A&M.
“Bryce is a really cerebral player, typical of a coaches’ son, who loves the game. He is a wonderful teammate and cares for his fellow players. He possesses a work ethic that has helped mold him into a phenomenal player for us and a future mainstay in the Ole Miss offensive line. What sets him apart from others is a consistent theme for our players here and that is a really quality person who happens to be a great player,” Brentwood Academy head coach Cody White said.
Matthews becomes the 29th commitments in the Class of 2016 joining Harriman offensive tackle Trey Peters (MTSU), LaVergne defensive end Chris Myers (MTSU), MBA tight end Jordan Wilson (UCLA), Brentwood Academy defensive tackle Brandon Adams (Vanderbilt), Alcoa linebacker Mitchell McClurg (Appalachian State), Alcoa defensive end Matthew McClurg (Appalachian State), Nashville Christian linebacker Daniel Bituli (Tennessee), Independence defensive back Kylan Stribling (MTSU), Silverdale long snapper Josh Brady (Jacksonville State), Clarksville defensive tackle Rakavian Poydras (Memphis), Oak Ridge tight end Darel Middleton (Arizona State), Hillsboro safety Malique Fleming (Mercer), St. Georges offensive lineman Jacob Still (Arkansas State), MUS linebacker Tim Hart (Tennessee), Independence wide receiver Nate Johnson (Purdue), MUS Athlete Thomas Pickens (Memphis), Karns Linebacker Devin Harper (Oklahoma State), CAK tight end Austin Pope (Tennessee), East Nashville defensive back DeVarius Cortner (Navy), Lexington linebacker Tadarius Tisdale (Ole Miss), Centennial Linebacker Tyrel Dodson (Texas A&M), Spring Hill quarterback Tylin Oden (Louisville), McCallie defensive back Nygel Edmonds (Stanford), Sevier County quarterback Deuce Wallace (Vanderbilt), Cookeville tight end Gabe Angel (Ole Miss), White Station wide receiver Dillon Mitchell (Oregon), Brentwood Academy offensive lineman Ryan Johnson (Tennessee) and Sevier County Athlete Dorian Banks (Tennessee) as players who have already committed in the Class of 2016.
