Forecast discussion: Over the last several days, a strong high pressure ridge in the Atlantic has been giving us the sunny and dry weather. It has also lead to very warm temperatures. The high temperature for Saturday reached 87 degrees in Boston. However, this will come to an end by early Sunday morning, as a cold front slowly makes its way towards New England. We will see the first few showers fall sporadically before dawn. Due to higher humidity, patchy to dense fog is expected along the shorelines, and about 10-20 miles inland.
As the front moves closer, the precipitation will become more widespread. There will be times where the rainfall is heavier, especially north of the Mass Pike. The cold front is expected to pass by about 2 p.m. Sunday afternoon. Temperatures will slowly fall, and it will become quite cool for the start of the work week on Monday. We will continue to see precipitation, but temperatures will only reach the middle to upper 50’s into Tuesday.
A series of disturbances will follow the front Monday night into Tuesday, so we will see showers, periods of heavy rain, and isolated thunderstorms. The front finally moves offshore by Tuesday night, allowing for high pressure from Canada to bring drier air over us. South winds will help raise our temperatures back into the upper 70’s by Friday. There is a slight chance for some showers on next Saturday, according to the models. However, the National Weather Service is keeping us dry in their forecast. For now, my confidence in the models after Friday is low.
