Forecast discussion: We had a great summer day in Boston, although it could have felt a little better. Our high temperature did reach 86 degrees, and dewpoint temperatures were in the lower to middle 60’s. This hot and humid weather will persist into most of this week, although there will be a little relief as we head into the following weekend.
At the moment, a weak cold front is pushing through Southern New England. Radar imagery showed Boston is receiving a few thunderstorms, through Facebook reports and observations at Logan Airport. Lightning could be seen at Foxboro Stadium during the New England Revolution game. Also, a line of thunderstorms are passing through Springfield, MA. We could see these cells come into eastern Massachusetts between 10 p.m. to 1 a.m. Activity will move offshore, as high pressure takes over for Sunday.
The strong high will center itself off the Mid-Atlantic coastline. This will keep us under west-southwest winds, and allowing for dewpoint temperatures to remain high. Temperatures on Sunday will reach the upper 80’s inland, and the lower to middle 80’s at the beaches. If the sea breeze does come back Sunday afternoon, expect temperatures to fall. We will push the mercury into the lower 90’s on Monday, with more clouds than sun on Tuesday. The heat and humidity may create a few pop-up thunderstorms on Tuesday.
A weak disturbance may create a few afternoon showers and thunderstorms on Wednesday afternoon. Otherwise, we will see more clouds than sun. A warm front to our north will help create a few showers Wednesday night, but we will return to partly sunny skies for Thursday. The upper level ridge that will give us the hot temperatures breaks down by the middle of the week. This will help lower our temperatures at the surface, along with a cold front which will bring rainfall on Friday. By Saturday morning, skies will slowly clear, but we will only reach the lower 80’s for high temperatures.
