Forecast discussion: A strong high pressure ridge continues to give Boston beautiful summer weather. On Saturday, the beach was the place to be, as we reached 88 degrees in the capital city. However, the sea breeze kicked in, as winds shifted to the east. This helped lower temperatures into the upper 70’s within two hours. Also, North Attleboro had a pop up thunderstorm around 4 p.m., bringing heavy rain for a short period of time. But, the models are going dry for all of eastern Massachusetts and expecting high temperatures to reach the lower 90’s for Monday.
The heat and humidity continue on Tuesday, as a weak cold front pushes into New England, especially by the early afternoon. We will have the chance to see scattered showers and thunderstorms by the early afternoon, and continue into the late evening. A new high pressure system behind the front will bring partial sunshine for Wednesday and Thursday. There will be a slight risk for more precipitation Wednesday afternoon.
A stronger cold front will pass through Southern New England on Friday morning. We will see showers and thunderstorms move through the area into Saturday morning. We should see some partial sunshine by Saturday afternoon. A new cold front will bring the risk for some scattered showers next Sunday.
Once we get past midweek, the upper level pattern will change. The upper level ridge that is giving us all this heat and humidity will break down, as the jet stream becomes more zonal (west to east) again. This will allow temperatures to slowly fall as we approach the weekend. Temperatures will slowly fall into the upper 70’s to lower 80’s for daytime highs by Friday.
