Bookcon 2015, the two day book convention open to the public is taking place on May 30 and May 31st at the Javits Center. Unlike BookExpo, which occurs on May 27 to May 29 and is open to trade professionals, librarians, booksellers, bloggers and publishing houses, both big and small, Bookcon is geared toward the reading public. Last year’s one day convention had a huge turnout, so ReadPop, the organizers, has added a day to the convention, expanded it, added big named authors, celebrities, YouTube personalities and movie screenings. The result is a convention that readers should not miss.
Who will you will be able to see? The authors present run the gamut. There are 239 authors autographing books and many of them will be debut authors. Romance writers, young adult authors, children books, narrators, graphic artists, and popular fiction novelists will be on hand. There will be about 80 panels, presentations, film showings and interviews.
Popular authors including Rainbow Rowell (Eleanor and Park and Fangirl), Marie Lu (Legend), Raina Telgemeie (Smile), Sarah J. Maas (Throne of Glass), Richelle Mead (Vampire Academy) Charleine Harris, (Sookie Stackhouse), and Elin Hilderbrand (The Matchmaker) will be on hand to sign their novels. There is a bookcon app for your phone to help you find where authors will be. Lines can be long so plan ahead to get a spot to find your favorite author. The big highlights last year were the Special Event Panels, and there is a whole procedure on the Bookcon website for the Special Panels, so if you want to see them make sure you are on line early. http://www.thebookcon.com/Events/Special-Events-Hall-Panel-Process/
