Bobbi Kristina Brown, who died July 26 at age 22, will be buried in New Jersey near her mother, Whitney Houston, following a private funeral service in Atlanta arranged and paid for by director Tyler Perry.
Perry, a longtime friend of Bobbi Kristina’s mom, the late Whitney Houston, said he will “take care of everything,” sources told ET July 27. Tyler offered the use of his private jet to transport Bobbi’s body from Atlanta to New Jersey, where she will be buried near her mom.
Bobbi Kristina’s funeral service will take place Aug. 1 at the St. James United Methodist Church in Alpharetta, Georgia. She will be buried in Westfield, New Jersey, at the Fairview Cemetery on Aug. 3.
Insiders said Perry offered to arrange the funeral and burial in order to “keep the peace” between the Brown and Houston families, who have been feuding over the deathbed photo leak of Bobbi Kristina and over money and legal issues.
“Tyler has been really close to the family,” his friend Oprah Winfrey revealed in a February 2015 interview. “Tyler was really supportive of Whitney when she had her troubles. He intervened and tried to help her, and I know that he’s been instrumental in trying to help Bobbi Kristina, too.”
Bobbi Kristina died July 26, four weeks after being placed in hospice care. Her aunt, Pat Houston, Pat’s brother Ray Watson and her sister-in-law Donna Houston, cousin Meeta Brown and family friend Wanda Shelley were gathered around Bobbi Kristina shortly before her death.
Family members read a verse from Psalms 23 in the Bible: “The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want” while waiting for the minister to arrive and administer the last rites. The group chanted the word “Hallelujah” as Bobbi Kristina drew her last breath.
Depressed Bobbi Kristina Considered Suicide Says Cousin
Bobbi Kristina’s death comes shortly after her cousin Jerod Brown revealed Bobbi Kristina considered suicide before she was found unconscious in her bathtub in January. Bobbi Kristina never got over the tragic 2012 death of her mom Whitney Houston and was severely depressed before her hospitalization.
“She was very depressed,” Jerod Brown, the son of Bobby Brown’s late sister, Bethy, told the Mirror. “She would call me often and say she was dealing with her [mom’s death]. We talked about suicide and I would talk her down from it, explaining it wasn’t the right thing to do. I had been there myself, so I would talk to her about it and we would get her through it.”
Jerod continued: “I told her she had more to live for and her mother wouldn’t have wanted that. But her mind was that of a depressed woman. Whitney was her best friend. They were together every day. Just before the [drowning] incident she said her mother was visiting her in her dreams every night.”
Bobbi Kristina’s boyfriend, Nick Gordon, was recently served with a $10 million lawsuit alleging he beat and robbed Bobbi Kristina during their relationship. Gordon is currently living in Florida with his mom.
Bobbi Kristina’s family claims Nick punched her in the throat and face, choked and threw her against the wall. Sources say Gordon knocked out Bobbi’s front tooth shortly before she was found face down in her bathtub in January. A criminal investigation is pending.
