Bobby Brown, noted R&B singer and father of Bobbi Kristina Brown, came out in defense of his daughter this week after headlines began clamoring that the 22-year-old’s condition was such that she was being taken home to die. In a statement through his lawyer, Bobby Brown said that the media reports were basically untrue and that the family was focused on Bobbi Kristina Brown’s medical prognosis and the criminal investigation into how she came to be in her present condition.
ABC News reported June 19 that Bobby Brown has apparently become frustrated with all the media reports claiming that his daughter, who has been mostly unresponsive since being found face-down in her bathroom tub inside her Atlanta townhouse on January 31, was being allowed to go home to be taken care of until her death. He said, through attorney Christopher Brown, that the family had two priorities.
“I am making decisions with [Whitney Houston’s sister-in-law] Pat Houston and we are working together for the medical care of my daughter,” he said in the statement. “Right now we are focused on Bobbi Kristina’s medical prognosis and the criminal investigation. These are the priorities for us. Whoever had a hand in causing my daughter’s injuries needs to be brought to justice.”
But just what that “justice” might be depends on the facts of the case. There is considerable animosity between family members and some have gone as far as accusing Nick Gordon, Bobbi Kristina’s live-in partner (according to the couple, her husband, although this has been denied by her father), with having something to do with how she ended up prostrate in a tub of water. Since Gordon and a friend were those who found her, their eye-witness accounts and forensics will have to tell the story, regardless of suspicions.
Among those suspicions is that the friend who initially found her, named in the police report as Maxwell Lomas, may have had something to do with Bobbi Kristina’s state at the time, given his history of drug involvement (detailed by International Business Times). Friends told People magazine that Bobbi Kristina was under the influence prior to the incident that led to her hospitalization and that she was a regular user of heroin, cocaine and Xanax. And then there is the reported restraining order she acquired after that she and Nick Gordon supposedly got into a fight the week before the incident (also from IBT).
As mentioned, several within the family believe Nick Gordon contributed to Bobbi Kristina Brown’s current state. Bobby Brown has all but accused Gordon and has issued orders that the young man not be allowed to see the Bobbi Kristina the entire time she has been hospitalized. In February, Leolah Brown, Bobby Brown’s sister, said in an interview with Fox 5 Atlanta that she was “110 percent” certain that Nick Gordon would eventually be charged for her niece’s condition.
As for authorities, they have kept rather mum about the case and the investigation into what happened on January 31. Roswell (Georgia) Police confirmed in February to People magazine that there had been an ongoing criminal investigation into the happenings on the night in question from the moment they were called to the scene. A source told the magazine that police suspected “foul play” and were looking into possible drug-related factors.
Over the months, though, authorities have had nothing to say about the incident. It is certain, whether charges are filed or not, that the Roswell Police Department will eventually issue a full official report. When that might be is completely unknown at this time.
As for the justice that Bobby Brown and Bobbi Kristina Brown’s family seek in her name, it might be a long time coming — or it might be relegated to an accident (with extenuating circumstances) classification. In the meantime, the family has to do — with regard to their hospitalized family member and with the police investigation — what it has done since their ordeal began — wait for developments.
