The Great American Beer Festival took place once again in Denver, Colorado over the weekend, and Blue Pants Brewery (Madison, Alabama) has walked away from the event with a silver medal in the Historical Beer Category for their Dortmunder Adambier.
Founded in 1982, the Great American Beer Festival (GABF) is known as the “premier U.S. beer festival and competition.” The event serves as both a public tasting and private competition of the largest assortment of U.S. brews assembled in one place. The awards issued at the Great American Beer Festival are some of the most respected and prestigious in the U.S. craft beer community.
Now that we covered the background on the festival, it goes without saying that a huge congratulations is in order for Blue Pants Brewery earning a GABF silver medal with their Dortmunder Adambier in the Historical Beer Category. Brewmaster Weedy Weidenthal undertook quite the challenge when he decided to tackle this extinct German style, but it certainly paid off when the year long process came together to produce a delicious and truly unique craft beer experience. From the first to final sip, the Dortmunder Adambier wows you with a complex and beautiful combination of sweetness from dark malts, a perfect balance of savoriness from the smoke, and just enough Brettanomyces funk to challenge any expectations you may have had going in. For more information on this brew, here is the full label description from the brewery:
A recreation of a historical German style, the Dortmunder Adambier became extinct after the implementation of the Reinheitsgebot. Brewed with a substantial amount of dark, smoked malts, traditional German hops, and fermented with Brettanomyces, the Adambier was aged in oak barrels for one year. 12.7% ABV
Ever since Weidenthal has returned from his training at Siebel Institute, the quality of the beers Blue Pants has been turning out has been on a completely different level. At just 25 years of age, the sky is the limit for Weedy and this silver medal is just one of many accolades sure to be coming his way. The Dortmunder Adambier is truly an amazing beer, and it deserves all of the praise and recognition it receives. There are still some bottles floating around out there on shelves, so do yourself a favor and grab a bottle if you happen upon one. To Weedy and everyone at Blue Pants Brewery, I just want to extend the most sincere of congratulations on this win at the Great American Beer Festival. My glass is raised for you guys. Keep up the great work. Prost!
