ONE: Tonight, Thursday, July 23rd if you tune into NBC’s Food Fighters at 8 p.m. you will find Blue Moon Café’s Chef Simington in a head-to-head competition with a home cook contestant who is battling professional chefs for a grand prize of $100,000. This will make Simington’s 2nd appearance on the show, once last year and this episode – though she will be returning in another episode in a couple weeks to do battle once again. If you are in the neighborhood of Dog Watch Tavern at 8 p.m. they are having a viewing party.
Sarah advised that they don’t get to see the pantry or know what they are cooking in advance and truly only have 20 minutes to pull their dish together against the home cook who has been making their dish for years.
TWO: July, 2015 is the celestial occurrence of the Blue Moon, a month when there are two full moons and being celebrated at Baltimore’s hot spot for breakfast the Blue Moon Café in Fells Point. There are always lines out the door, especially on the weekends when they are open 24 hours.
Owner Sarah Simington is wrapping up the final details of the new Light Street location in Federal Hill. Will we almost have two Blue Moon Cafes in the blue moon month? It is going to be close. More than likely the Blue Moon Café Too will be open mid-August.
THREE: As stated above, Blue Moon Café Too is almost done. You can get a sneak peek, though under construction, in the slideshow. The location is 1024 Light Street on the corner of Poultney Street, a former dry cleaner and also a 5 & 10 cent store. A lot of time and energy has gone into the renovations, breaking through walls to add windows, back to the exposed brick and the multiple chandeliers.
FOUR: Owner and visionary, Sarah Simington says this is the start of a chain of her “badass” breakfast joints – more Blue Moons to come with a rock and roll attitude. A personality unto herself, you can hear her often on 98 Rock from time to time when she fills in for one of the regulars and see her on re-runs of Diners, Drive Ins and Dives. A Food Network sweetheart, she carries on Guy Fieri’s work of traveling the world entertaining and cooking for the troops. This is just the beginning for Sarah, she is a rising star.
FIVE: Listen to the most interesting and fun radio interview between Sarah Simington and Dining Dish on Baltimore Internet Radio. Sarah, a stunning raven haired beauty talks about being an empath, a witch and her issues around electricity. LISTEN TO THE PODCAST
The Eagles song “Witchy Woman” comes to mind:
Raven hair and ruby lips, sparks fly from her finger tips
Echoed voices in the night, she’s a restless spirit on an endless flight
Woo hoo witchy woman, see how high she flies
Woo hoo witchy woman she got the moon in her eye – Blue Moon Café that is!
