Is the blood moon a herald of the end days? The upcoming blood moon has once again ramped up speculation among certain Christian fundamentalist groups, armchair prophets and Jewish mystics that the forthcoming astrological moon event is connected with so-called Bible prophecy that predicts lunar phenomena in conjunction with our world’s end. September will showcase some unusual lunar events — a lunar eclipse is scheduled to occur simultaneously as a Supermoon — and the convergence of events is thought by some to spell our cataclysmic fate by way of raging floods, earthquakes and volcanic eruptions, all stemming from tide-induced activity.
A blood moon is often defined as a total lunar eclipse. In the shadow of the Earth, the moon, when eclipsed, may take on a red glow. When four total lunar eclipses occur in a row, it’s called a lunar tetrad. Three eclipses have already occurred in the current tetrad: April 15 and October 8, 2014, and on April 4 of this year. The next one will occur on September 28, 2015 – thought to be Doomsday.
Bible readers point to scriptures that refer to the moon being turned to blood. Joel 2:31 reads: “The sun will be turned into darkness and the moon into blood before the coming of the great and fear-inspiring day of God.” And the book of Revelation also describes a condition where the moon is to be turned to blood. In a vision, John reported at Revelation 6:12: “And I saw when he opened the sixth seal, and a great earthquake occurred; and the sun became black as sackcloth made of hair, and the entire moon became as blood.”
The recent tetrad is said to have special meaning, especially among Jewish adherents, because each date coincides with a Jewish festival.
Explains TimeandDate.com: “The two April lunar eclipses in 2014 and 2015 occurred at the same time as Passover, while the October and September eclipses occur during the Feast of Tabernacle. This, they suggest, is connected to a biblical prophecy of the end of times.”
WorldNetDaily reports that a “scholarly Orthodox rabbi from Brooklyn affirms this series of blood moons is serious spiritual business, because each one brings the world closer to the advent of the messiah.”
“Each one of these is a messianic advancement,” says Rabbi Mendel Kessin. “There are incredible events that predate the messiah. We have now entered the countdown to the messiah.”
According to the UK National Tidal and Sea Level Facility, ocean tides will be affected by the eclipse, though the seawater is only expected to temporarily rise a few inches in certain parts of the world.
