A recent article was published by The Age that states a young Joash Boyton of Australia, at age 19, had embarked upon several deceptive means of stealing money with stolen credit cards. Apparently the scheme of it was that Joash was using the credit cards to purchase airline tickets and household products, which were then sold on auction sites throughout the internet. Joash also employed others in his dealings to help conceal the crimes.
The level of complexity of this crime had the Victoria Police’s e-crime unit dedicating hundreds of hours in an investigation that took over two years. It was said that upon his capture, Joash had received financial advantages worth upwards of $100,000. Nearly 50% of the money was returned by organizations like PayPal and eBay, while Joash has made arrangements to return the remaining money.
With over 160,000 stolen credit cards, Boyton made small payments to charities to test which of the cards were working. It is undetermined where he managed to gain access to the large number of credit cards.
Boyton is also a member of a community of black hat SEO’s where he was the owner of a company called SEM Impact. His company bought and sold expired domains which could then be re-used for the purpose of building up a network of private blogs that would then be a source for creating backlinks. This method is taught by SEO expert and Private Blog Network educator, Alex Becker, of Source-Wave.com. In fact, Boyton’s website contains an endorsement from multi-millionaire Alex Becker which can be located on the home page of SEM Impact.
Kotton Grammer of kottongrammer.com is a known affiliate of Alex Becker as well as the world famous OMG Machines made a post on Facebook regarding the matter:
Sad news for the owner of SEMimpact PBNs
Salman Baig is an expert SEO in Pakistan who has had years of experience making millions for companies throughout the world. He said:
Can’t believe @joash Boyton from @sempact is arrested for scamming people.
He is my online friend on facebook (Account deactivated) and I recommended people to purchase domain from him as he was one of the best expired domain merchants. Sad.
The shock of Boyton’s crimes has left the the underground world of PBN experts in awe. Commenters have brought up the interesting point that organizations like OMG Machines and Alex Becker’s Source Wave are training platforms that promote the hopes of making hundreds of thousands of dollars in a matter of months. The crimes of Joash Boyton has left students wondering why he didn’t simply make the $100,000 by applying the teachings of Alex Becker, Mike Long and Greg Morrison.
It should be mentioned here that the above named individuals have no association with the crimes of Joash Boyton, and any affiliation is primarily through Search Engine Optimization and Joash’s company SEM Impact.
