Yesterday, May 25th, some of the crew from Irrational Games that worked on our favorite titles such as BioShock, BioShock Infinite, and Dead Space, began a new Kickstarter project. The Deep End Games’ new project is for a horror game called Perception and promises to offer a bold and fresh take on first person narrative games.
Perception is described on their Kickstarter page as, “A narrative horror adventure featuring a young blind woman who must solve mysteries and escape a deadly presence, all without sight.”
The heroine, Cassy, is said to have extraordinary hearing and razor-sharp wits in which she uses to unearth mysteries of an abandoned estate that dwells in her dreams. While utilizing echolocation, every sound will create a visual for Cassie to “see”. She will be greeted by unforgiving enemies, including The Presence, in a deadly game of hide and seek. As the mysteries of the house are solved, changes to the Estate at Echo Bluff are made apparent. Plus, the Kickstarter states that the player will, “Travel back through history to exorcise your own nightmares.”
Cassie will not have a lot of weapons at her disposal and will have to rely on her wit, cane, and smart phone as means of survival. The smart phone will allow her to examine evidence and she will jump back in time as pieces are put together. The house wants to keep its secrets and its deadly Presence goes to great lengths to stop her from discovering them. She will not only use sound as her sight, but also creep through the house without making much noise to set off the haunting enemies of her location. Since she will not have a lot of weapons, if she is spotted, Cassie will have to run and hide to avoid The Presence and the other enemies.
The description further details:
Architecture and décor evolve, entire wings and buildings come and go and alter your relationship with the space. Once you’ve discovered the source of evil in each generation, it’s your job to right the wrong.
With each chapter, there are new questions that need answering. And you’ll need to keep on your toes for new threats. The Poppets, for one, completely change what it’s like to explore the mansion.
The goal of the Kickstarter is to reach $150,000. It is currently at $3,616 and still has 29 days to go. The levels of rewards for backers include the digital download code for the game, a digital wallpaper set, the backer’s name in the credits, a blueprint for the house, and exclusive t-shirts. Some of the backers will even be able to join the Creative Director, Bill Gardner, for an evening of multiplayer action on a game and platform of the backer’s choosing. Some will become Cassie’s BFF and text exchanges with the backer’s name will appear in the game. There are many rewards available, but the top one includes meeting some of the team to visit their favorite haunted farm and scream-park and take a trolley tour of Salem’s creepiest attractions with some drinks in-hand.
