Defined as a small pickup truck, the Frontier definitely doesn’t match the dimensions of its big brother, the Titan. But its generous cabin space might lead you to believe you are in something larger, even in the rear seat. It also is generous in the areas of versatility and capability.
Just like Goldilocks with the baby bear’s porridge, chairs and beds, I found the size of the Frontier to be ‘just right’ for my taste. While there are situations where a big, powerful pickup truck is called for, I usually need much less. The Frontier makes child’s play of towing a camper or boat, and has plenty of room for the hay, feed, and tack I’m likely to throw in the cargo bed, and the locking tailgate and cargo bed light are great features. It will also handle a stock trailer loaded with one of our cows or horses. It is capable and manageable on our property’s hilly, curvy, and sandy roads where larger vehicles sometimes bog down. Deep, loose sand can be worse than mud! On our property and on the road the vehicle-speed-sensitive power steering really kept the Frontier in control and on the road, whatever the speed.
Not designed to be a luxury ride, the Frontier is never-the-less comfortable and attractive. My test drive pickup was a 2015 Pro-4X in Metallic Blue, and it also seemed a ‘just right’ color. The satin chrome grille and body-color front and rear bumpers unified the appearance, and 16-inch off-road alloy wheels enhanced the sense of power. Inside were an 8-way manual adjustable driver seat with adjustable lumbar support, heated front seats, 60/40 split fold-down rear seat, cruise control and steering wheel audio controls. The Rockford Fosgate premium audio system was impressive! And NissanConnect with Navigation and mobile apps was all I could ask for.
I truly enjoyed our week long test drive of the Frontier Pro-4X, and really did not want to turn it in after seven days! Efficiency and power are defining characteristics of this vehicle, but I found it comfortable and fun as well.
The manufacturer’s suggested retail price for the test drive model 2015 Frontier is $32,560. Estimated fuel economy is 14 miles per gallon for city driving, 21 on the highway. Load up your family of bears and go test drive one for yourself!
