On September 26, Lone Star Championship Wrestling returns to its home at the Cypress VFW in Houston for a live night of professional wrestling. A lot of surprises are planned for the event, including the return of a couple of longtime favorites. Here’s how the night is looking so far.
Headlined by the Lone Star Heavyweight Championship match, John Saxon is ready for unquestionably his toughest task to date. Back on August 2 of last year, “The King of the Underground” Scot Summers walked into the main event as champion. But a beating he suffered earlier that night caused CEO Tony Brooklyn to throw in the towel and cost him the match and title to the debuting Steve Anthony. A year later, Saxon is walking around with the championship, a title that Summers feels he never lost. And there is plenty of evidence to support his claim. But the record book shows his defeat. Now Summers has returned after a year-long hiatus and is now more determined than ever to not only regain what he claims is rightfully his, but also to reassert himself as something many fans have chanted at him for years..”Best In Texas.”
Also on Saturday, fans will witness a Lone Star Women’s Title match. Last month, fans witnessed one of the most bizarre turn of events in recent memory. Barbi Hayden, who is shattering records by entering her FOURTH consecutive year as champion, turned on her longtime boyfriend Houston Carson and apparently aligned herself with the heinous group known as The Empire. Fans have wondered why, and she refuses to acknowledge their questions. But one person she WILL have to address is Candice LeRae, who is making her Lone Star debut this Saturday night. After making waves across the country, Candice is set to go after the title and Barbi’s streak as champion. But you have to wonder if her newfound allies will be in her corner, as she goes into this match. Things are definitely interesting with her as of late.
Speaking of The Empire, they will have their hands full in Cypress as well. “Loverboy” Matt Riviera and “Golden Boy” Greg Anthony will defend their coveted Lone Star Tag Team titles against “The Benchmark” Silky Baines and “Blacknificent” Luther Black, collectively known as “The Originals. Silky is no stranger to tag team gold, having been down this road a few times himself. But his partnership with Black is still new and they have a huge mountain to climb if they intend to overthrow The Empire and walk out as the new tag team champions. Anthony and Riviera are ready however, and you can bet their group will be in full force as they look to retain the titles.
One of the more unique stories over the last year has been the domination from “The Royal Warrior” Prince Kanu. After acquiring the services of Hambone and Chaz Taylor, Kanu went on a terror streak that ran wild throughout Lone Star Championship Wrestling. However Hambone and Taylor have now escaped their contracts and control under the diabolical Kanu and it has set up a pair of interesting matches.
Taylor’s first challenge as a free citizen will be in the form of the gigantic Keith Lee. Now Taylor has faced some big men throughout the course of his career, but few if any have been anything like Lee. He is determined to knock down the big man and get back to his winning and fan-friendly ways.
Conversely, Hambone will finally get what he’s been waiting for since June of last year. He will go one-on-one with the evil Prince himself. Kanu may have have made a huge mistake. After Hambone racked up a series of losses, Kanu fired both Hambone and Taylor. But in doing so has awoken a side of Hambone that practically nobody has ever seen. On Saturday, Hambone is set to take out 15 months of frustration on the man that made his life a living nightmare, and end the reign of Prince Kanu.
And Cypress will witness the in-ring return of the only Triple Crown winner in Lone Star history, “One Man” Mike Dell. After being away for a year, Dell is bent on getting back on top of things at Lone Star Championship Wrestling. But in order to do that, he must first take care of business in the ring against “Dirty Andy Dalton. Dell and Dalton are no strangers to each other, and will likely tear the house down at the Cypress VFW. Dell is looking to get back into championship contention, but Dalton has every intention on making Dell’s return a gigantic failure.
Lone Star Championship Wrestling brings all the action to the Cypress VFW, located at 21902 Northwest Freeway (Highway 290) in Cypress this Saturday at 7:30 P.M. Central. Tickets and information can be found at the Lone Star website as well as their Facebook page.
