If Joe Biden’s goal was to get DC’s tongues wagging, he accomplished it by meeting with Sen. Elizabeth Warren in DC this weekend. As a result of that meeting and other information they’ve uncovered, the Wall Street Journal is reporting that Vice President Joe Biden “is increasingly leaning toward entering the race” if it’s possible to pull together a campaign organization at this late date.
Noting that “both major parties’ campaigns are in a state of flux” is understatement. Hillary Clinton wasn’t just the presumptive nominee. Most pundits expected a coronation. A funny thing, depending on whether you’re part of Hillary’s campaign organization, happened on the way to Hillary’s coronation, though, which has thrown the Democrats’ orbit out of whack.
Hillary Clinton’s email scandal continues to plague her, though her campaign won’t admit it. Numbers don’t lie, though, and the numbers from Quinnipiac’s poll are particularly unsettling for Hillary’s team.
Quinnipiac’s polling shows Sen. Marco Rubio defeating Hillary by 12 points in Florida, 7 points in Pennsylvania and 2 points in Ohio. An earlier poll of the swing states of Colorado, Iowa and Virginia showed Rubio, Jeb Bush and Scott Walker beating Hillary.
If ever there was a perfect storm of conditions that would entice Vice President Biden into the race, those polling numbers in key swing states, coupled with Hillary’s continuing email scandal, represent Vice President Biden’s perfect storm.
For Democrats, Mr. Biden’s meeting with Ms. Warren fueled speculation that he is sounding out support he might receive among those at the party’s progressive base should he seek to challenge Mrs. Clinton. James Smith, a Democratic state representative from South Carolina, said a Biden alliance with Ms. Warren “would be a strong message to primary voters.”
Getting Sen. Warren’s blessing would quickly jump start Vice President Biden’s campaign. Sen. Warren broke lots of progressives’ hearts when she repeatedly said no to a presidential bid. Many of the people waiting to contribute to her presidential campaign stayed on the sidelines rather than committing to Hillary in the hopes she’d change her mind.
A simple thing like Sen. Warren giving Vice President Biden her blessing would unlock the doors to those contributors. It wouldn’t take much to build a campaign organization, either, considering the fact that President Obama’s Get Out The Vote (GOTV) organization is currently working for the DNC. Organizing for Action could probably morph into Organizing for Biden in a week.
This isn’t good news for Hillary. Saying that this complicates Hillary’s coronation is understatement and then some. That’s her ‘reward’ for being paranoid, secretive and utterly corrupt.
