Whether it was the extremely negative backlash over Bernie Sanders sounding defensive of Hillary Clinton’s private email scandal during the last Democratic debate or that he finally came to his senses, he now has drastically changed his tune from a symphony defending Hillary to a head-banging punk song calling her out. As one may clearly remember, Hillary Clinton’s stiffest competitor Bernie Sanders said that Americans are sick of hearing about Hillary’s “damn emails.” Now, he claims that he never meant that he doesn’t want the federal probe into the emails to subside, according to a Yahoo! News report on Thursday.
Sounding like a typical politician’s flip-flop, Sanders – a Vermont senator – told the Wall Street Journal this week that there is indeed an investigation going on. He followed up by asserting that he did not say that the investigation should end. He now says that ending the investigation would be silly. Persons were baffled when Sanders proclaimed that Americans were sick of hearing about the emails. In general, that is not true. Many people want to read every word of every email that can be found – regardless of Clinton’s continual masked effort to ‘drip, drip, drip’ the information out. And now, apparently, Sanders wants his potential voters to know that he believes the questions that continually surround Clinton’s private server with emails during her stint as secretary of state are valid questions. Additionally, he now claims that the investigations should proceed unimpeded.
Specifically, according to Politico, Sanders said in the past:
The American people are sick and tired of hearing about <Hillary’s> damn emails. Enough of the emails. Let’s talk about the real issues facing America.
Apparently, his followers followed his instructions and his campaign took a huge dive. Now, this new Hillary Clinton emails tune being sung by Sanders comes after Clinton has surged in the polls. After the debate in which Sanders defended the emails, Clinton’s numbers took off and she left Sanders’ poll numbers in the dust. Sanders has really blown it with his complete turnaround from the “damn emails” comment to the “investigate” assertion by showing that he can flip-flop just like the best of them. In fact, almost as well as Clinton!
It’s no different than what happened to Chris Christie’s reputation among conservatives and Republicans, as well as he popularity, when he hugged President Obama. Christie embraced Obama six days before the 2012 presidential election when Obama and Christie met regarding Superstorm Sandy. The visual of the hug went viral and is etched in America’s minds to this day. One would think a politician would be smart enough, during an election stint especially, to not defend or praise the competition. Recently, North Jersey did a piece on Christie stating what many know to be quite true: “The GOP won’t forgive Christie’s Obama hug!” It’s incredibly true. There are Republicans who won’t ever vote for Christie after he showed approval and support of Obama just before the last presidential election. Intelligent politicians who are in it to win need to have the common sense to not do that.
Instead, Sanders should have kept his mouth shut regarding his opinion that Americans are sick of hearing about it. There obviously has been no benefit to the man basically kissing her backside publicly at the debate. First and foremost, he’s wrong. Many, many Americans want the email story to be told to completion – as he now claims he wants. Second, he showed he really isn’t all that smart after all. And if he thinks this flip-flop on the Clinton email scandal will help him, he’s really unintelligent. At this point, the flip-flop won’t help him at all. The damage has been done. Congratulations to Hillary. Not that she didn’t have it already, but the Sanders “damn emails” comment basically gave Clinton the Democratic nomination. It’s the best thing that ever happened to her campaign up to this point.
