When Dr. Ben Carson suggested this past week that he would not “advocate for” a Muslim president because Islam was “not compatible” with the Constitution of the United States, many fellow Republican candidates and conservative pundits attacked him for proposing to violate the founding document’s ban of any “religious test” to hold public office. The critics were wrong.
Dr. Carson in no way contradicted the Article VI constitutional ban on a religious test to hold federal office, which reads in clause 3 as follows: The Senators and Representatives before mentioned, and the members of the several state legislatures, and all executive and judicial officers, both of the United States and of the several states, shall be bound by oath or affirmation, to support this Constitution; but no religious test shall ever be required as a qualification to any office or public trust under the United States.
Carson seeks no additions to the oath or affirmation required. He proposed no religious test to run for and hold the office. But the Koran and Hadiths demand that civil laws be subordinate to Sharia for all Muslims. It is not an idea that only the extremists/terrorists adhere to. It is fundamental to Islam, which has no separation of church and state, as in Christianity. There is no Jesus in the Koran who says to “render unto Caesar.”
Attorney Andrew McCarthy this week added to the complete refutation of the claims against Carson:
Of course, Carson did not call for the enactment of a law disqualifying Muslims from serving in public office, which is what the religious-test clause actually forbids. He merely offered his personal opinion that it would not be wise for Americans to elect a Muslim president.
Islam’s “holy” books explicitly countenance the use of lies much as does Lenin and Stalin’s Communism and much as does President Barack Obama and Hillary Clinton’s Rules for Radicals by Saul Alinsky. Remember, you can keep your doctor and your plan? Remember how Obama said he would use stimulus to fix roads and bridges? Remember the 37 times he said he could not grant amnesty without Congress? I do.
We have enough trouble avoiding secular liberal Democrat liars. Why would we nominate a candidate whose religion demands lying for Allah and instituting Shariah laws that reduce women to chattel slavery and the Bill of Rights to fire kindling?
