Inspired by the inaugural TEDx event held in Tryon, NC this September, there will be a Community Conversation called ‘Behind the Scenes at TEDxTryon’ on Friday, November 6 from 6:00 to 8:00 pm at Isothermal Community College Auditorium, 1255 W Mills Street in Columbus, NC. Free and open to the public, the event will host a panel of the 2015 TEDxTryon speakers and their coaches to share what it was like to prepare and present a TED talk from start to finish.
TED provides ‘Ideas Worth Spreading’ in the form of short, powerful talks. To give a TED talk can be challenging to speakers who are used to having more time to share their topic with their audience. In spite of the long hours of preparation and practice, every one of the TEDxTryon speakers said they were glad they chose to participate. One speaker said it was the most rewarding speaking experience they’d ever had.
Attendees to the local TEDxTryon gave the speakers rave reviews for their talks. One attendee commented that the talks were professionally delivered and there was a wonderful array of inspiring topics—from creativity and innovation to sustainability and aging gracefully to the power of forgiveness and self-empowerment. Another attendee remarked that the speakers were great examples of real people engaged in real life who chose paths that allowed them to be more than they were before.
The impact of the ideas shared by the speakers will reverberate throughout the community as local residents participate in on-going conversations about the inspirational ideas shared at the inaugural event. Several more community conversations are planned for the First Quarter 2016 to expand on the ideas presented on stage.
Speaker submissions for the next TedxTryon will be accepted in early 2016. The auditions and practice will include some “open mike” sessions so that community participation will continue for both speakers and attendees. If you are interested in learning the ins and outs of a TEDx presentation or are considering the possibility of giving a TED Talk about an idea worth spreading, the Nov 6th Community Conversation event may be a wonderful opportunity to satisfy your curiosity and learn if you are up for the challenge of giving your own talk at the next TEDxTryon
