Recently, personalized clothing giant CustomInk partnered with reality dance superstar Lindsay Arnold for the company’s 15th anniversary. To celebrate the occasion, CustomInk gave away amazing surprises to 15 of their customers. Examiner was lucky enough to interview Lindsay, who dished her go-to beauty tips, fashion advice, and CustomInk.
atombash.com (Cristine Calvanico): Why did you decide to partner with CustomInk for this surprise?
LA: CustomInk came to me, told me about the 15th anniversary and about their 15 surprises they were planning to do, and asked me to help surprise the Waller High School dance team. As soon as I heard, I immediately wanted to be a part of this. I grew up dancing on my high school dance team and being able to give back to other girls who were in my position is really important to me.
Examiner: What are your personal favorite clothing items when you’re dancing?
LA: I usually wear Lululemon leggings and Nike Roshe Runs because they are the comfiest and give my feet the most support. I’m really obsessed with Lululemon. They’re my go-to and are really good for all styles. It’s kind of funny, I always rehearse in tennis shoes – I don’t know why. It’s kind of a thing that everybody does on “Dancing with the Stars.” All of us dancers rehearse in tennis shoes because we’re standing on our feet all the time, and if you’re not wearing supportive shoes, then you’re going to end really quickly so you have to support those feet.
Examiner: Do you have any favorite looks from Dancing with the Stars or So You Think You Can Dance?
LA: When Alfonso was on the season, I did the trio dance with him and Whitney. We had the coolest Paso costumes. They were these really awesome gladiator-looking things. We had a really cool skirt and these high boots – it was just awesome. I think, all together that was one of my favorite costume, and I really loved our hair and makeup for that as well. It all came together really nicely.
Examiner: What are your favorite moments from being on it for the last six seasons?
LA: There have been so many amazing moments but one of my favorites was from last season when I got to take part in Noah Galloway’s freestyle dance. It was contemporary and there were about six of us dancing to the song “Fix You.” It was just an amazing moment – I feel like we were all just dancing as one. It was incredible – just the energy on stage was unreal. At the end, we were all in tears, so happy with how well it went. We were so proud of him because he got through it. He made it through the whole season and just really pushed through all the obstacles that came his way. That’s one of my favorite moments so far, being on the show.
Examiner: Do you have any beauty tips you’ve learned from makeup artists from either show?
LA: I have learned a lot from them, mostly from watching but I will say I don’t really wear a lot of makeup during the week. We get so much makeup put on our face during show days so you kind of need to give it a break. That’s one of the beauty tips I learned – make sure you give your face a break. I’ve noticed that the less makeup I wear, the less I need it because my skin starts to look better – my face doesn’t break out as often and I have fewer skin problems because I’m not clogging your pores every single day with makeup.
Examiner: When you’re not dancing, what are your favorite fashion or beauty trends?
LA: Lately, I’m really into the no effort look. It’s super easy, and I love a good beachy wave, light, light makeup. I just love the fresh, natural-looking faces – it’s who you are! Sometimes we get crazy with our makeup, and it just hides what you have inside so I really like a fresh look. I think beachy waves are my favorite though – I always try to get away with doing it every week on the show and they’re like “Lindsay, you need to switch it up a bit.”
Examiner: What was the best part about working with CustomInk and the Waller dance team?
LA: I think the best part for me was just being there for the girls and seeing how excited they were. Also, seeing how awesome it is for CustomInk to give back to their customers. I don’t think you see that very often where companies really go out of their way to do something nice for the people that are giving them their business. It was really awesome and exciting to meet all the girls, and to see how excited they were. I loved giving them a little bit of a taste of what it’s like to be on the “Dancing with the Stars” and teach them the choreography from the show – that was the best part for me.
Thank you, Lindsay, for your time! It was so interesting to learn about your personal tips and everything you’ve learned along the way!
