What inspired you to create POP Pilates? How did you come to collaborate with 24 Hour Fitness?
CH: I have been doing Pilates since I was 16 years of age, and it has always been a huge part of my life. But it wasn’t until I posted my first Pilates YouTube video in 2009 when I knew I could make something special. I have also always loved pop music, so I thought, why not combine the two? The combination of Top 40 music, choreographed to Pilates exercises, is what makes POP Pilates different than any other group fitness class. It’s like a dance on the mat.
The YouTube audience and the popularity of the format online helped get the attention of 24 Hour Fitness and from there, we were able to form this amazing partnership!
Tell me about POP Pilates? Can anyone do this exercise and benefit from it (from beginners to fitness pros)?
CH: POP Pilates is for anyone! You don’t have to be a fitness professional, or have been practicing Pilates for years, to take a POP class. There are modifications for everything and the benefits are endless. The workout keeps your heart-rate up so you stay in the fat-burning zone, while strengthening and sculpting your entire body without any equipment. POP Pilates will tone your abs like crazy and you will have fun while doing it! It’s upbeat, ridiculously fun and you are guaranteed to leave sweating, smiling and SUPER SORE!
What motivates you to stay healthy and fit?
CH: To me, working out is fun and that’s why I do it! It makes me feel strong, powerful and unstoppable. It also gives me a lot of energy and motivation for other aspects of my life. It’s not about vanity or looking a certain way – it’s about the feeling of happiness I get from my workouts that keep me motivated to stay fit.
How do you start your day- do you have a morning mantra or ritual you do to get you going?
CH: The first thing I do when I wake up is check my phone. I read tweets, Instagram comments and messages from the Blogilates community. It is the ultimate inspiration and motivation for my day. Plus, I just love interacting with my fans, so I respond to as many comments as I can. It sets a positive tone for my day.
What inspires you and your Blogilates designs?
CH: My POPsters (Blogilates fans) inspire me every single day. None of this would be possible without them. They continually motivate me to create the best workouts, recipes, videos and products. I constantly listen to their feedback and read comments to see what they like and what they want.
Any words of advice to help readers stay in shape this holiday season?
CH: It’s the holidays, so you’re allowed to treat yourself, but just don’t go overboard! Stay consistent with your workouts and eat clean 90% of the time. Make sure you don’t go to events or parties on an empty stomach, because then you’re more likely to binge on all the not-so-healthy treats! Also, be the person who brings healthy snacks or meals to parties and potlucks – then you know you’ll have the option to choose something healthy. Remember that it’s okay to indulge, and the best thing to do the next day is drink lots of water to de-bloat and flush out your system.
Can you share any health, fitness, and diet secrets or life lessons to live a healthy and happy life?
CH: Honestly, there are no secrets! You just need to work hard and stay consistent. If you want to be healthy and happy then you need to create a lifestyle that you enjoy. Find workouts you love and create healthy meals that you like. Surround yourself with people who love and support you, remove yourself from negative energy, and you will live a happy and healthy life.
