A baby was left inside an SUV during a carjacking, but the suspect reconsidered his move once he learned a child was inside the vehicle he stole. The incident occurred in Miami’s Little Haiti neighborhood on Fri. afternoon, Local 10 News reports June 19.
Police said a woman left her 2-month-old baby inside a running Jeep and that’s when a man jumped into the driver’s seat and sped off. After a short police chase, the suspect stopped the SUV when he noticed a baby was with him during the carjacking.
NBC Miami adds in its report that the baby was reunited with his mother. Authorities haven’t identified the suspect, but he’s reportedly an underage male. It’s unknown what charges he’ll face for stealing the jeep. There was no reported injuries on the baby.
A similar story related to the baby left in a SUV during a carjacking happened to an 8-year-old boy in South Fulton County, Ga earlier this week, USA Today reports. The boy was inside a vehicle as his mother got out of it to fill it up with gas, but a carjacker burst into the driver’s side and took off. Luckily, the child’s father was able to help save his life in spite of the carjacker not stopping. The thief is still on the loose.
