Author Theresa Hissong has decided to donate half of the proceeds from her new book, Fully Loaded, to Star Treatments, a charity for kids with cancer. Hissong, an erotic and paranormal romance author, is a lady who knows her books. She managed a retail book store for nearly three years. Nowadays, Theresa isn’t selling books. She is writing books, and she’s writing a lot of them!
“I write contemporary romance,” said Hissong to atombash.com New Orleans Literature. “Specifically Rockstars. I also have a few paranormal romance e-books and an erotic ménage that will release in September.” Hissong’s romance book series include Glory Days and Fatal Cross Live!. “The Glory Days books all center around domestic violence, The women and one man in the books were abused in some way. I wanted to use my ‘voice’ to help women see there was a way to have a happily ever after.” She is also the author of award-winning paranormal vampire series Warriors of the Krieger.
Known and beloved for her rockstar series, Theresa is a huge supporter of music and musicians. After a fan girl Twitter post with the bassist of one of her favorite bands in mind, a heartwarming series of events brought about her standalone novel Fully Loaded. Theresa shared her story with atombash.com New Orleans Literature.
“About two years ago,” began Theresa, “I had tagged a tweet to my favorite rockstar that changed my life. I’d declared my Mondays as #MCM (Man Crush Monday) to Matt DiRito. After a few weeks, our combined fans began to find interest and I think it became a habit for the both of us to goof around on Mondays, interacting online with my weekly posts. It wasn’t long before I took a trip to see Matt’s band play in Missouri, and at some point, the fans suggested…well, demanded, we meet. I remember that day as if it was yesterday. We’d met in an abandon parking lot, next to the bus, and in the rain. After that, my crush turned into a friendship, and that turned into an idea.
“Matt was in the process of starting his charity, Star Treatments, and had shared his vision with me during one of our visits. Star Treatments is a transportation service for children with cancer to take the stress and burden of traveling several hours off their families when the children are scared and sick after their chemotherapy appointments. A sponsored family would be put onto an actual tour bus and delivered to their treatments and returned home after their time at the facility. The bus will be stocked with movies, snacks, and food. There are televisions, bathrooms, and bunks for sleeping; basically a home away from home. The idea behind the charity is to help these families focus on what matters most…the children, while providing a positive experience during an otherwise stressful time.”
Hissong has a very personal reason for wanting to help with DiRito’s charity. “As a parent myself,” explained Theresa, “and having a sister who’d lost her battle with cancer, this charity stuck with me. The ideas Matt had shared with me over time really wrapped around my heart, and I wanted to do something to help. I’m just thankful I can be on this journey with him to make things just a little bit easier for these kids and their families.”
When asked how exactly one coaxes a rockstar to agree to have his ‘likeness’ written into a novel, Theresa simply seems to have had her heart in the right place. “Somehow, the idea to write Matt into a story was mentioned and the fans went crazy! And all in the best possible way! After talking with Matt, we came to an agreement that if he agreed to let me use his likeness in a book, I would donate 50% to Star Treatments for…well, forever.
Hissong explained that the plot for her novel came to her after talking with her friend Matt. She discovered that they both had “a love for New Orleans and the people who reside there.” Per the author, “It was only fitting that I set this book in the French Quarter.”
The book has only been out a few months, but Theresa is pleased with reader responses. “Fully Loaded released March 3, 2015,” she said, “and the support has been overwhelming! I can only thank Matt for being such a trooper and letting me do this. It has been an experience I will hold near and dear to my heart for the rest of my life. After the end of the day, and all of the book, charity, and fan interactions are said and done, I have gained a friend…a brother that I would do anything for, because Matt DiRito has a heart of gold.”
Fully Loaded is just that, fully loaded, with excitement, drama, sexual tension, glamour, set-backs, and choices. The female lead, school teacher Heather Rose, finds herself drawn to a rockstar performing onstage in the French Quarter. When he returns her flirtations during the performance, disbelief slowly turns to longing for Heather. A series of events leads the two into a relationship, and Fully Loaded turns up the steam along with the ages old question in every girl’s mind. Is he right for me? One can’t help but admire the author’s writing skill as Hissong sets the New Orleans scene for romance, and it is a very unexpected diagnosis that throws the school teacher, the rockstar, and the reader for a loop as Hissong fires up the drama.
It is quite a generous leap for Theresa Hissong to donate one half of the proceeds of this novel to charity “forever”, because this novel is so good it is likely to build momentum as more and more fans spread the word. It is nearly impossible to put this book down once the reading starts. The author is offering autographed copies of Fully Loaded for charity here. Theresa was recently a guest author of the ARC NOLA Authors & Readers Conference in New Orleans. The novelist had these words to say about the city and ARC NOLA:
“New Orleans has always been a place that I’ve frequented for as long as I can remember. My family lives in and around the city and I try to visit several times a year. I’m very excited to come as an author this time and to meet new fans, existing ones, and to shake hands with my fellow writers. There are so many events planned for this event that I can’t nail down just one that I’m excited for. I guess you’ll have to ask me after the festivities for the answer.”
Theresa Hissong has published an unbelievable eight books in two years. She credits this to her husband, a retired Air Force Master Sergeant. “I started writing seven years ago when my husband would deploy to Iraq or Afghanistan while active duty in the Air Force. When he retired two years ago, he told me, ‘You supported me for 18 years, it’s time I supported you. So publish your books.'”
It Takes Two, Book 1 of her new Memphis S.W.A.T. series, is due out September 23. The prolific writer recently released Fatal Desires, Book 1 of the Fatal Cross Live! series. Theresa Hissong is currently working on Book 2, entitled Fatal Temptations, due out this winter.
