Fun can be had by all at an unique festival that celebrates the virtues of an unusual combo– wine and fish. Plan a visit to the 7th annual Wine & Walleye Festival being held along the historic Ashtabula Harbor in Ashtabula, Ohio on Friday, August 21, Saturday, August 22 and Sunday, August 23. It is approximately a one hour drive from Cleveland.
Taking place on Bridge Street in the city’s harbor district, the Wine & Walleye Festival features such diverse activities like wine tasting and a fishing tournament in addition to a Classic Car Show, a 5K run and a Guppy Run for kids, an art show and one event you don’t want to miss — the Lighted Boat Parade on the Ashtabula River (with a theme this year of “The Wizard of Oz’) happening on Saturday evening at 9:15 p.m.
Participating wineries for the wine tasting include Ferrante Winery & Ristorante (Geneva), Debonne Vineyards (Madison), Grape & Granary (Akron), Grand River Cellars (Madison) and Humble Bee Vineyards (Lakewood) among others. Tickets purchased in advance are $15 per person and weekend passes are $25 per person. The prices include 12 wine tasting tickets, a Wine & Walleye souvenir wine glass and a promotional bag of goodies. Weekend passes include 12 wine tasting tickets on both Saturday and Sunday.
The Fishing Tournament starts on Saturday at 6:15 a.m. Various prizes will be awarded with an awards ceremony taking place on Saturday at 4 p.m. You must register to participate. Competitors include amateurs and pros. Cost to register for the amateur division is $50 per person. Cash prizes will be awarded in the amateur division for 1st place ($1500), 2nd place ($500) and 3rd place ($300).
The Festival will also feature live, musical entertainment provided by Tom Todd, Miles Beyond, Backspin, Good Question and the Ernest T.Band. Of course, there will be a lot of food available for purchase including a fish fry dinner available on Friday evening from 5 p..m. – 11 p.m.
Hours for the Ashtabula Wine & Walleye Festival are 5 p.m. – 1 a.m. on Friday, 6:15 a.m. – 1 a.m.. on Saturday and noon – 6 p.m. on Sunday. Admission is free but there are fees for the wine tasting and the Fishing Tournament.
