Ashley Judd’s abs secret can change your life. Judd was one of the keynote speakers and participants at the 2015 Zumba Convention Kick-Off Session in Orlando, Florida, this week, where the actress showed off her “killer abs in a sparkly bra top and booty shorts.”
The secret behind Ashley Judd’s abs is not due to “too much plastic surgery,” and it is not due to not having babies or “money, time, gyms, or personal trainers,” as some readers are commenting on August 15 under ET’s article. Judd’s secret to looking and feeling great is Zumba, Yoga, and Neuroplasticity.
Zumba is a dance fitness program that has been around since the 1990s and was created by Colombian dancer and choreographer Alberto “Beto” Perez. Zumba involves dance and aerobic elements, but the level of movement is adjusted to a person’s needs. Approximately 15 million people take weekly Zumba classes in over 200,000 locations across 180 countries – and Zumba dancers are of all ages, from children to the elderly. There are nine different types of classes for different levels of age and exertion – and Zumba Gold is a program designed for the needs of the elderly.
Zumba classes are usually free and focus on all elements of fitness including cardiovascular, muscular conditioning, flexibility, balance – and having fun! To join others in a Zumba class in your area (many classes take place in a park), simply use your zip code on Zumba’s website.
Not everyone needs abs like Ashley Judd, but everyone can benefit from a positive and fun social environment. As Judd wrote on her Facebook page back in July:
“Well, y’all, I’ve mentioned I found Zumba, and that I love it. It began as just a little something good for the brain, with friends mentioning a class they really enjoyed. … It has transcended brain work and become an experience of effervescent JOY.”
Ashley Judd’s abs and her secret to feeling well also includes Yoga. Similar to Zumba, there are many misconceptions about Yoga. Take the story of a Farrier, an old strong-looking guy from the Old West whose back was worn out from shoeing horses or trimming their feet for decades, who discovered that Yoga and his Yoga mat could do what no doctor or medicine could do for him – get rid of the back pain.
When talking about her abs, Zumba, and Yoga, Ashley Judd does mention something that is worth noting. Finding a great teacher and the right environment can be like winning in the lottery:
“If you haven’t tried Zumba yet, consider stretching yourself and making a class. If the instructor does light you up with joy, try a few others until one tickles your spirit.”
Besides Zumba and Yoga, Ashley Judd’s third ingredient to looking and feeling absolutely fabulous is neuroplasticity.
“When I work out, I try to challenge myself in other ways. I’ll be in Zumba and the whole class is doing the combination to the right, but I’ll start doing it to the left just to challenge my brain. It improves neuroplasticity, which is the brain’s ability to generate connectivity. It’s regenerating.”
Ashley Judd’s abs might actually help in understanding neuroplasticity. New research by neuroscientists has found that the brain has the ability to form new neuronal pathways and connections through action and experience, and that the brain – just like abs – can change and become stronger. Quite interestingly – as Ashley Judd has shown — those actions do include Zumba and Yoga.
