Cheap landscapers obviously save you money. Is it worth it, though? They sometimes leave a mess for you to pick up when trimming trees and such. They don’t always do the highest quality work. They may cut corners. On the other hand, they can save you hundreds of dollars. It’s tough deciding whether to pay a premium price for landscaping that’s done right or save your money and do some of the work and job clean-up yourself. Plus….
Not all cheap landscapers are low quality.
Some do a pretty decent job. Others do a better job than the highest paid professionals who have nothing to prove. Their prices are low because their business is new. They’re just trying to build it up. Low prices and excellent service net them the customers they need in order to do so. They may even try harder to please you, since they need the references more. Chances are, they have the same training as the high dollar companies.
Who knows? They could have degrees in horticulture. After all, everyone has to start somewhere.
Small businesses are on the decline.
Hiring smaller, less expensive landscape companies supports local businesses. If you like diversity and loathe the chain stores that are monopolizing the world, why not do something about it? Help out the little guys. Keep them in business so that everyone has more choices in the future. Give them the experience they need to improve and grow their landscaping business. If it turns out that you chose the wrong company, just don’t use them again. Call someone else next time.
Supply and demand always weeds out the bad guys in the end.
High dollar landscape companies aren’t always high quality.
In fact, some leave you wondering just exactly why you paid a higher price. Odds are that they “mess up” your yard just as often as the cheap landscapers. They might leave lawn debris, damage your property or charge extra for clean up or detailed trimming too. Problem is, that’s a little harder to swallow on an empty wallet.
It may be better to save a little cash and be surprised by the high quality of the work than to pay for high quality and walk away feeling robbed.
So what if you have to do a little raking?
You need exercise, right? We all need exercise. What better way is there to get it than putting a little sweat equity into your own home? So, those cheap landscapers don’t really get paid enough to do a detailed clean-up. They still saved you a ton of work. They got the main task out of the way. Your lawn and garden are a little better for their having been there. Plus, you’re left with several hundred dollars in your pocket. Why complain?
So, are cheap landscapers really a bargain?
That depends on the company. Some are wonderful. Some leave you hanging. In the end, though, it pays to shop around, rather than going with the big companies every time. Paying more doesn’t guarantee perfect service anyway. Of course, loyalty comes into play as well. If you already have someone you know and trust, maybe you’d be better off sticking with them. In the end, it comes down to your own preferences, ideals and expectations.
Just don’t write off those cheap landscapers. Some of them truly shine when given a chance.
