An anti-gay Michigan pastor has been leading a double life – a pulpit preacher of damnation for those who engage in acts of homosexuality, in not-so-synchronous existence with a dude that likes to get naked and post pics of himself and swap steamy online exchanges with other men. Eventually, vice won out over virtue, and this homosexual evangelist has found himself defrocked – literally.
Writes WorldReligionNews.com: “Pastor Matthew Makela from Midland, Michigan has been a loud critic of homosexuality in his community. Now this married father of five has been caught exchanging X-rated messages with other men on Grindr, a mobile hook-up app geared for gays, bisexuals, and bi-curious men.”
Makela, the former pastor of St. John’s Lutheran Church and School, admitted to his parishioners that he was “addicted to homosexuality.”
Despite his closet addiction, Makela had been outspoken in his publishings about the scriptural and moral dangers of a homosexual and transgender lifestyle.
As recent as March of 2015, Makela wrote in his Facebook page that “the transgender movement is going to assist opportunistic sickos in preying upon children and others.” In September of last year, he posted:
“Changing the culture begins with changing our own culture of marriage and family, taking the marriage union with the utmost seriousness and welcoming children in our church,” he wrote, stating that gay marriages do not “reflect God’s will of love and submission.”
All such posts have since been deleted, along with Makela’s Grindr account, in which he stated he likes to be “on top” and “enjoys nude make out sessions, oral sex, massage, and even cuddling” with other men.
Adds the Daily News: “Gay news site Queerty obtained screenshots of the conversation, which showed Makela sending multiple photos of himself to other men.”
The pastor is preaching a different message these days, stating that God loves him and all gay men, and that there is still hope for him to overcome his “struggles.”
“I love people who have same sex attraction, and so does God,” Makela wrote. “The proof is in the sacrifice He made for all of us who sin… We don’t tell a person born with tendencies to abuse alcohol to keep on giving in to his innate desires because he can’t help it. We try to help him in his struggle.”
The Senior Pastor at the Lutheran church has evidently declared Makela forgiven.
“Pastor (Makela) has acknowledged that there was sin and repentance, and I have testified that there is indeed forgiveness through the same Lord who forgives all our sins,” Senior Pastor Rev. Daniel Kempin said in a message to the congregation.
