Anna Paquin won’t be going ‘Rogue’ sometime on the big screen. According to ComicBookMovie.com, the Oscar winner and “True Blood” actress tweeted to a fan that she won’t be reprising her “X-Men” role in the upcoming “Gambit” film starring Channing Tatum as the lovable mutant rogue. And while we’re still on the subject of Rogue, she has a romantic relationship with Remy LeBeau/Gambit in the comics, so this news came as a surprise to “X-Men” fans.
Anna was in the “X-Men” trilogy as Marie/Rogue, whose mutant ability to touch and/or mimic mutant powers complicates her budding romance with Bobby/Iceman (Shawn Ashmore). Like Logan/Wolverine (Hugh Jackman), Marie/Rogue was originally caught in the middle between mutant pacifist Charles Xavier/Professor X (Sir Patrick Stewart) and his militant counterpart Erik Lensherr/Magneto (Sir Ian McKellen). Like Wolverine, she chose ‘the right side’: the X-Men, whose purpose is protecting a world that fears and hates them for being ‘different’. Anna reprise her role in last year’s “Days of Future Past”, but her scene didn’t make the final cut; it can be seen, though, on DVD.
With the exit of Rupert Wyatt as director, the deck is stacked against “Gambit” beating the odds to get released on October 7, 2016.
