The following interview was conducted at the Cove Center for Recovery, a drug and alcohol rehab with a former flakka drug addict in recovery named Dean. According to a recent WSVN Fox news segment,, Flakka is a dangerous synthetic street drug that can cost users their minds and their lives. The drug flakka can cause bizarre behaviors. Some flakka users can be seen contorting their bodies apparently confused and in some cases hearing voices.
Dean, the subject being interviewed, had been using flakka for an extended period of time prior to entering the Cove for recovery. His girlfriend got him addicted to the drug that has been crippling the South Florida community for the past two-years. Flakka is so destructive, it kept Dean up for 21-days without sleep.
Below is the exclusive interview with Dean:
Scott: “How long have you been using it (flakka)?”
Dean: “For about two years.”
Scott: “How did it (flakka) come into your life?”
Dean: “I was dating a girl who was doing it (Flakka). I decided to give it a shot and at first it was a lot of fun. We had a lot of good times then it started becoming less of getting high and having a good time and more of it becoming a how am I going get this next high and more of a mental obsession. It started destroying my life and taking over everything.”
Scott: Did flakka impact your family life?
Dean: I was living with my parents when I started doing flakka and after only one month I had moved out of my parents house and cut them off completely from my life,
Scott: “How come you stopped communicating with your family?”
Dean: “It was more they were disappointed in me for what I was doing and I was mad at the way they were handling things, but at the time my thoughts were nowhere near logical or rational, because I was high all the time.”
Scott: “So how old are you now?”
Dean: “Twenty two.”
Scott: “Twenty two, you’re young. Did you do any of the bizarre things that we hear about like taking off your clothes in public?”
Dean: “No. it’s the people who use an IV to inject flakka who do crazy things like running around naked. The one’s that smoke it are very calm. I was never an IV user. I smoked it. It was easier to control myself and my high than the people injecting it. With intravenous, it is like going from 0 to 100 real quick. The people in my opinion that I have seen (injecting Flakka) end up getting extreme paranoia and do all that crazy stuff you see in the news because people are injecting themselves with it at much greater quantities than they are used to doing and they just can’t handle it.”

Dean, a former flakka addict now in treatment
Scott: “So what was flakka like when you first started using it”
Dean: “When I first started using flakka – after smoking it – I had this euphoric feeling and body rush that was unparalleled to anything that I’ve ever done. I had boundless amounts of energy to do things and I would be awake for days and weeks on end with a smile on my face and not a care in the world. I was extremely happy and none of my problems seemed to matter.”
Scott: “And what happened over time as you continued to use flakka?”
Dean: “After using flakka for a while, I wasn’t getting the euphoric rush anymore. I was just smoking it to avoid the crash. If I stopped I knew I would sleep for a week. Flakka became a maintenance thing. It took over my mind to the point where I was so mentally obsessed with chasing it down and finding my next high that nothing else mattered. I lost jobs, ruined friendships, I didn’t talk to my parents for almost a year and all that time seemed to just fly by while I was high.”
Stay tuned to part two where Dean reveals why flakka users take off their clothes.
