This holiday season event may not be for everyone but if you are a history buff (one who particularly is a fan of presidential history) and you are looking for an opulent and unique holiday experience then check out the Christmas Dinners at Spiegel Grove being offered by the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center in Fremont, Ohio on Thursday, December 3, Friday, December 4 and Saturday, December 5. It is approximately a 90 minute drive from Cleveland.
With proceeds benefitting the Rutherford B. Hayes Presidential Center, this special historical event features a 6-course Victorian feast served in the 19th President’s 31-room mansion which has been restored to its 19th century grandeur. Your elegant evening begins when a footman assists you into a horse-drawn carriage which will deliver you to the carriage entrance of the Hayes mansion where Union Army soldiers will escort you into the home.
The menu for the 6-course feast will be taken from State Dinners hosted by President Hayes and First Lady Lucy Hayes during the White House residency from 1877 – 1881. Costumed staff will be serving you and seeing to your needs throughout the sinner. The event will also feature period entertainment.
Seating is limited to 24 people per night. Reservations are required and payment must be made in advance. Cost of the Christmas Dinner at Spiegel Grove event is $250 per person ($175 is tax deductible) with proceeds going to benefit the Presidential Center. Parking is free. Hours for the event are 6 p.m. – 10 p.m. all three nights.
