It’s time for another episode of “America’s Next Top Model,” and the episode starts right where we left off last week in the shipping yard, as the 22 semi-finalists are told they will have to walk on a runway poised on top of shipping crates three stories in the air.
The models will be hooked up to a harness, so no one is going to fall. Well, let me rephrase that. The models that will move on to compete as part of the Top 14 finalists will be lifted in the air at the end of the runway and safely deposited on a container across from the runway. Those who are not chosen to move on will be slowly dropped to Mother Earth, and shooed on home.
We are introduced to Erik “Mister Triple X” Rosete, who designed the clothing the guys and girls will be modeling, and the girls will get to wear Miss J’s line of heels. Woo Woo!
The first person to walk the runway is Dustin, who is fine as he walks to the end of the runway. Then, he’s lifted in the air and he starts thinking he’s made it when Miss J, who is watching with Alexis Borges from the shipping containers on the other side tells him to pose. Then, Dustin is lowered a bit and he starts getting scared that he’s going to get dropped, but then he’s lifted again and makes it to the other side. Lacey is next, and she poses and impresses Alexis. Mamé is next, and she continues impressing with her great poses and walk.
Bryant is next, and he seems to be giving some fierce poses as he’s suspended in the air, but nope, he’s dropped down, the first to be eliminated. He’s followed by Justin, who makes it, as does Nyle. Larissa and Gage are next, and both are dropped, followed by Stefano, Ashley, Hadassah and Delanie, who all make it. Bello also makes it, but Miguel is dropped, and Maleesa, who is the shortest model of the bunch also doesn’t make it. Ava makes it across, but India, who is super afraid, and cries, does not. I find it odd that Mikey, who does virtually nothing as he’s hanging there makes it across, when there were others that really posed and tried, were dropped. Courtney is really nervous, but she gives some great poses and she makes it.
Now, it’s down to just Dallas and Devin. Bello is rooting for Dallas to make it, but alas, he is dropped. Devin is the last to walk, and he is clearly afraid, but he puts on a brave face, and then he starts doing that licking his thumb thing that he is constantly doing. Both Miss J and Alexis think it’s super weird that he’s doing that. Then, Devin starts running in the air and he looks really dumb doing it, but he makes it across.
We have our 14 finalists! Everyone gets on a raised platform and Tyra comes over and congratulates everyone on being finalists. She says the next time she will see them is… “I don’t know.” Hmmmm. Sounds like she’ll be showing up before panel.
Everyone heads back to the house, where there is the big screen tv with the scores from the challenge. The scores are as follows:
- Mamé 10
- Lacey 9
- Ashley 9
- Dustin 9
- Mikey 9
- Justin 9
- Nyle 8
- Delanie 8
- Hadassah 8
- Stefano 8
- Ava 8
- Courtney 7
- Bello 7
- Devin 7
Everyone gathers together with glasses of champagne and other beverages to celebrate making it to the Top 14.
The next day, the bus picks up the models and brings them to the studio, where Yu Tsai and photographer Erik Asla, who has shot them twice before. Erik says they will be doing a wide beauty shot which will feature everyone’s best features. But Yu interjects that the models will be shot in pairs, and they’ll be tied together with various items. The pairs are:
- Lacey and Bello (bound by chains)
- Hadassah and Dustin (bound by skinny belts)
- Justin and Mamé (bound by computer cords)
- Courtney and Mikey (bound by hair)
The rest of the pairs aren’t announced because Yu says that someone wants to talk to the models about their neck. Who could that be?
Yep, I’ll bet you guessed. It’s Tyra! She tells them that the media loves to say when they think that the models aren’t showing their necks in their photos, calling them “No Neck Monsters.” Tyra says she’s been accused of this herself, and she wants to show everyone the right way to show their necks.
Tyra says that someone animals are no neck monsters, but in a good way. Others, not so much.
Bad no neck monsters: Turtle, Iguana, Gorilla.
Good: Giraffe, Horse, Owl.
Tyra has a couple people try out the poses, and Courtney does really well, but Hadassah seems to have a problem following directions.
During the shoot, some models have great poses, namely Bello and Lacey. Devin and Ashley do well also.
Hadassah talks with Stefano, and he asks her which animal she thinks she is going to challenge. Hadassah seems to think she doesn’t need to use that technique, and she is going to do what she wants. Oh boy.
Hadassah is teamed with Dustin and as Tyra tries to give some instruction during the shoot, Hadassah seems to not know where to look, even as Tyra tells her to look at her light. And, they eventually get a picture, but it doesn’t seem like it’s overly great on Hadassah’s side.
Delanie is another model who has problems. She models great from the waist up, but from the waist down, she seems to be grounded. She’s paired with Nyle, who doesn’t get much critique.
Ava and Stefano seem to do pretty well. Ava more so than Stefano. We shall see.
Courtney is having anxiety and she goes off to cry. Mikey finds out and he goes in to where she is and tries to calm her down, as he knows if she is uncertain during their photo, it will reflect badly on him as well. She pulls it together and they go out to the shoot. Tyra really likes how Mikey is looking, but Courtney is having problems finding her light.
Back at the house, everyone is out by the pool, and Mikey starts talking to some of the other models poolside. Courtney is in the pool and she overhears him say that he’s not used to being around so many weak people. She starts crying again and Bello takes her in the house. Mikey is really being a jerk. He makes Courtney think that he’ll always be there for her, but then he acts like a real idiot, like he feels like he’s got to baby her.
It’s time for the first panel. Tyra says that the judges will give each model a score and that combined with their challenge score will be how they are scored with best photo on down to who is eliminated. The call-outs went as follows:
Of the bottom two, Stefano is in the bottom because his pose was like an accessory to the model he was posing with. Delanie is in the bottom because her feet seem to be stuck in cement. Delanie is the first model eliminated.
Next week is makeover week. It looks like maybe Mikey is going to lose his long hair. I think Tyra will want to challenge him because he seems to act like he really needs it to model, and he should be able to model with hair any style. Another person that seems to have an attitude is once again Hadassah, who seems to be saying she’s not going to let them shave her head. Maybe she will walk? Tune in next Wednesday, August 26 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT to find out what happens.
