It’s time for another episode of “America’s Next Top Model,” and as the episode starts, the 22 semi-finalists are about to head to the model house to get their first look at their new digs. Well, the digs that only 14 of them will actually inhabit as finalists anyway.
As the models enter the house, they are greeted by Drew and Jonathan Scott, the “Property Brothers.” They welcome the models to the home, and explain that Tyra reached out to them to design the house for the models. Awesome! They also say they have something in common with the models as they were also once models prior to their “Property Brothers” days.
Jonathan and Drew then give the models a tour of the house, which includes a killer kitchen, and a runway in the living room. There is the OPPO phone room, where the models must each check in every day and practice with their selfies. Tyra also gave her input on what she thought should be added in the house, and Drew called her their “Property Sister.”
The jewel in the crown is of course, the Tyra Suite, which someone must earn to get to sleep there. They go on to mention the two bedrooms at opposite ends of a hall. And, naturally, there are only 14 beds and 22 models. So, Jonathan prompts them to go claim their space. People that don’t end up with a bed will be sleeping on the floor on blankets.
Everyone goes running to the bedrooms trying to claim a bed. Mikey takes the opportunity to use his luck at getting a bed into finding a “snuggle partner” for the night, and he starts propositioning the girls left and right.
We start to see some people rubbing others wrong, as Devin is very energetic and loud and it really bothers Bello. Hadassah is someone that Lacey finds as one that she wants nothing to do with. She vows to stay away from her. Alexa, on the other hand doesn’t have an objection with anyone in particular. Her problem is that she doesn’t have a bed, and she’s never lived in a roommate situation before, so she’s not sure how she’s going to deal with having to share everything. I smell trouble brewing.
But, there’s no time to dwell on the sleeping situation as Jonathan tells everyone there is one more special place that he and Drew want to show the models. They all head downstairs where they find an area set up as a posing station, with a mirror and a spotlight. Behind the mirror is a camera, so people can practice their posing, then check out how they look on the monitor.
Jonathan says that he and Drew wanted to give the models the best of everything, but they think it’s time to demonstrate. In walks Miss J and Yu Tsai, and it’s time for a pose-off.
The models will compete in pairs and they’ll be given a theme of what their pose should look like. The winner remains standing and the loser sits down. It goes on through all 22 models until there are only the 11 winners. Then, those winners compete until there is only one winner.
In the end, it is down to Mamé and Ava. I’m actually rooting for Ava, but Mamé rocks it and wins. What does she win? Why, the Tyra Suite, of course. She also gets to pick someone to share it with her, and she chooses India, who hasn’t really received much air time. Interesting.
Now, we get our first look at the Tyra Suite. The room has a big bed in it and it’s decorated in yellow, black and white, with photos of Tyra on every wall. Hmm… wonder who designed this room?
Well, it’s about time for some more drama, so Hadassah decides to call a house meeting. As everyone gathers around, Hadassah gives everyone her rules, such as, don’t drink straight out of the juice container and put it back, and don’t take things from the fridge that are hers, no burping, and the best of all, don’t stare at her from a distance. Yikes. I think Hadassah just made 21 enemies in the house with her crazy rules.
The next day, Kelly Cutrone and Yu Tsai meet the models at Universal City walk and tell them about their first photo shoot where they will be posing with hashtag plaques positioned in front of their #FiercestBodyPart. Other than that, they’ll be wearing merely a thong. These photos will be the ones used as part of the cast photo.
After everyone goes to get their makeup done and they don their minimal wardrobe, Yu introduces the photographer, which is Massimo Campana, who is the same person that photographed everyone on the busses in the previous episode. Apparently, there are actually two photographers, as Kelly introduces Erik Asla, who has photographed Tyra before, and was used in previous Cycles.
Alexa is standing on the sidelines. She is not in her makeup, nor her wardrobe. Kelly talks to her and Alexa reveals that this isn’t what she expected. She is one of the ones that was without a bed, so I really could see this coming as she really looked like she couldn’t deal with the sharing and the lack of sleep and all. She tells Kelly she wants to go home. Yu Tsai comes over to her and tries to talk her into staying, but Alexa has made up her mind, and with the title of this episode, I’m not surprised, she is going home. Bye bye, don’t let the door hit you on the way out.
The photo shoot commences with the remaining 21 semi-finalists, and Mamé does really well, Bryant does the same thing over and over, and Yu claims that he’s got the underwear model thing down, but other than that, he’s got nothing. Hadassah struggles, Courtney needs to have more confidence, Maleessa is a really tiny thing, but she’s got good proportions, Bello does well. Ava is a little hoochie, and Devin is cuckoo, which causes Yu to give him criticism, and he can’t handle it and starts balling. Oh boy!
Bello has had it with Devin and he gets in his face, accusing him of being fake with his crying. The two nearly come to blows, but stop just short. Whew.
The judges gather to look at the photos and make their cuts.
Miss J loves Mamé, saying she has a really incredible face and a knock-out body. Kelly thinks Justin is a runway and editorial guy. Tyra and Kelly love Delanie, who Tyra says has lost about 35 pounds, but Yu thinks she models “heavy.”
Tyra is insane for Nyle, but Kelly thinks him being deaf might be a problem on the set. Yu speaks up for him, however, saying he can read lips and he was great to work with. Kelly isn’t feeling Maleesa, and Tyra thinks Mikey has a rock ‘n roll look.
Tyra loves Courtney’s face, but Miss J says that while her grill photographs well, she’s scarey in person. Hmmm… wonder if Tyra might want to fix her teeth like she did with Dani Evans, winner of Cycle 6.
Kelly thinks Dustin is more Teen Beat than Tean Vogue. They love Lacey, but Kelly wonders if she’s too sweet for the fashion industry. Miss J thinks that Hadassah is too pagenty.
Tyra likes Bryant, but Yu thinks that he’s only good for underwear and swimsuit modeling. Miss J loves Bello, calling him a “bitch in invisible heels” in his pose. Kelly thinks that Devin is bizarro but that there is something that is fascinating about him.
Kelly and Tyra love Stefano with his Eurasian good looks and his naturally rose colored lips. But, Miss J thinks he’s posing like a girl. Tyra says Miss J is just jealous.
Next, the models head to a shipyard, where they meet Miss J and Alexis Borges, who is the Agency Director of NEXT Management, who will be the agency the winner is signed with.
Miss J says that the models will be walking in a dramatic fashion show with a runway four stories high. He points to a runway stretching out from a pile of containers. Some of the models get a little green thinking of being up so high. Others have no problems with the height.
Alexis says that everyone will walk the runway, but not everyone will make it. You guessed it. This is the way they will show the elimination. The models will be strapped in a harness as they walk and if they make it they’ll be lifted to the other side. If not, they will be dropped down to the ground and eliminated.
But, can you say cliffhanger? We’ll have to wait until next week to see just who will be making it and who will be dropped, literally.
Tune in next Wednesday, August 19 at 8:00 p.m. ET/PT to find out what happens.
