It’s time for another episode of “America’s Next Top Model.” This week the models return from judging and Mamé is excited to see her winning photo on the flat screen TV. In the Tyra Suite, she watches Tyra’s video of her #TyTyTip. Tyra tells her that she gives “just enough” when she does her photos, but when she walks into a room, she commands. She wants her to go into the next photo shoot and command and stand out.
Mikey brings up the fact that at the last panel, Tyra told them there is a limit as to how long you can model, so you need to have a plan on what you will do when your career is over. She tells them she wants them to be her “fierce-a-preneurs.” She wants them to come up with an idea of a product that they can create and market. They will be doing a challenge the next day with this idea.
The next day, Kelly Cutrone comes to the model house, and the models come downstairs to talk with her, and they notice there are also tables of materials they can use to help them with the challenge. They will be coming up with a pitch for their idea, and they’ll make a presentation in front of Tyra, Kelly and some other entrepreneurs to sell their idea. The person with the best presentation will win $2,500.00 to make their idea a reality. Kelly reminds them that when they come up with their idea, they should pick something that ties in with their own personal brand, plus, something that is feasible to launch.
The models get cracking at designing their props to display with their presentations. Everyone seems to be working hard at coming up with their ideas, but Mikey notices that Devin doesn’t seem to be putting as much effort into his presentation.
The next day the models meet with Tyra, Kelly and Alli Webb, who is the CEO of Dry Bar, and Marie-Pier St-Hilaire, who is the CEO of AFI Expertise.
Mikey is first. His idea is to sell socks and t-shirts that look spray painted. His brand is called “Tocks,” and it displays the lifestyle of Mikey. He thinks he has this since he’s talking to four women and he has the charm for the older ladies. (OMG, just gag me. He’s so cocky about his charm.) But, as he continues his presentation, he definitely does really well with his idea. He has a good price point that isn’t too cheap or too expensive, and he bases this on growing up without a lot of money. He also mentions that he got some of his inspiration from reading the Zappos book that was given to the models in the previous episode. Pretty smart.
Next up is Devin, who has a fragrance line called “Emotions.” Where Mikey’s presentation was well thought out, Devin’s showed the lack of preparation. He got the name from the fact that he can be cool or sexy or funny. He has samples of the different fragrances which the women check out, and Kelly says that they all smell the same. He then points to his visual board with a yellow eye which he calls hazel, saying it’s because he has hazel eyes. Kelly then points out that the color he’s referring to isn’t hazel. Um, can you just say epic fail for Devin?
Next is Lacey. She’s marketing a book which she will pen herself. It’s called, “Small Town Girl Surviving the Real World.” She talks about it being about her – a young, 18-year-old girl from the south who is a Christian and saving herself for marriage, which spices things up. Huh? Kelly likes her visual presentation, but Tyra says that she needs to talk about who she is now, and then say, this is how I got here. Kelly asks her how she will distribute it, and Lacey says she is thinking about coffee shops. Kelly says that is shooting really low, so Lacey says she’ll shoot big, going for the nation.
Next is Nyle. His product is an app that helps people to use sign language to say things. He says people are always asking him how to say certain things, and he thinks this app will help hearing people communicate better with hearing impaired people. He says that the app will show how to sign something along with text at the bottom showing what they are saying. BothMarie-Pier and Alli say that Nyle’s good looks will help him as the face of his brand. Kelly asks him how much he thinks he’d want to sell this for, and Nyle suggests $1.99, and he’d need about $100 k to start with. Kelly says that won’t even get him a good publicist for 6 months for a project like this. Marie-Pier is worried that it will cost him a lot to create the app, since he’ll need someone to develop it.
Last up is Mamé. I’m not sure what exactly what her idea is about since she stumbles about trying to explain it. Something about helping empower women and designing jewelry or something? She is super nervous, but she totally fails. She is mostly nervous talking in front of people that are really important. She’s used to talking to kids in her job as Miss Maryland USA.
Time to decide who the winner is of this challenge. Tyra says that everyone has something that has legs, but only one person can win, and that is Mikey.
Next, Tyra tells the models to pack really warm because their next photo shoot will be a camping trip. They will be staying overnight in a campground.
Back at the house, everyone checks out the challenge scores.
- Mikey 10
- Lacey 9
- Nyle 8
- Mamé 7
- Devin 6
The next day the bus picks the models up and takes them to a remote area, where they meet Yu Tsai. He tells the models that they will be having their photo shoot right there in the campground. Then, he points to the small cabin behind him and tells them that they will be spending the night in the cabin.
As the models are hanging out in the little cabin, they decide that to keep warm later on at night, Lacey and Nyle will cuddle with each other. Mikey then tries to put the moves on Mamé saying that they should also cuddle. She neither agrees nor disagrees.
Everyone heads down to a campfire, where they meet Yu Tsai, and he tells them a scary ghost story. As everyone starts freaking out, Yu tells them that they are going to turn fear into fashion, and that they’ll be modeling in the dark. It’s off to hair and makeup.
As the models are getting their makeup done, Yu comes in and introduces them to Francis Libiran, who is the designer of the clothing they will be modeling.
A couple of the models did really well at the shoot, namely Mamé and Mikey. Nyle had problems as he couldn’t see Yu Tsai or his interpreter to see what Yu was telling him to do. So, his shots were all off as he couldn’t get the timing of the flashes correct. Lacey also had problems. Yu didn’t think she was bringing it. I thought she was doing some great poses, but I guess not according to Yu. Devin also had problems giving good poses.
That night, Mamé ends up cuddling with Mikey, and Lacey cuddles with Nyle, and Devin is on his own. Apparently, nothing happened other than cuddling.
At panel, the call-outs went as follows:
The bottom two are Nyle and Devin. The judges think Devin has fierceness, and they see he’s taken their critique to heart, but is it too late? And with Nyle, he started strong and he’s had great shots week after week, but now he’s slipping and others are doing better. Who will go home? Thank goodness it’s Devin. I was afraid that they were going to send Nyle home.
Next week, the models will be shooting a mock cover for Nylon Magazine, and they will see which of the covers customers like the best. It looks like Lacey has a bit of a problem during her photo shoot. And, lastly, the models will get a visit from their families.
Tune in next Friday, November 13 at 9:00 p.m. on The CW to find out what happens next.
