After weeks of trickling out portions of the Americana Music Festival lineup and putting up a schedule with numerous “TBA” holes, The Americana Music Association drew back the curtain on the entire lineup today. In doing so, they revealed a number of high profile artists, announced the lineup for their new Tuesday Night Kickoff parties, and released their new mobile app for Apple and Android devices.
For fans arriving at Americanafest early, Tuesday night brings the return of a Tuesday night fan favorite at the Bluebird Cafe and the addition of three huge shows at The Basement, Basement East, and City Winery. The Bluebird Cafe will host the “Tamworth Presents Australiana at Americana” show as they do every year. Hosted by Sounds Australia, the show will feature all of the Australian delegation of Americanafest performers. There will be two shows and tickets can be purchased at the Bluebird Cafe website. The Basement will host the Americanafest Kickoff Party. Performing will be young bluegrass sensations Della Mae at 7 p.m. followed by the Bluegrass Situation Late Night Windup hosted by Punch Brothers’ Noam Pikelny. At Basement East, Sin City vs. Guitartown will be presented. Featured artists will include The Bottle Rockets, Aaron Lee Tasjan, and Brian Wright.
But the biggest show of the night will take place at City Winery, where some of the biggest names in Americana will kick off Americanafest with a jam packed night of music. The evening will start at 6:00 p.m. where hitmaker Jewel will host a reading and signing of her new book “Never Broken: The Songs are Only Half the Story.” Then the music kicks off with J.D. and the Straight Shot at 8:00 p.m., Jewel at 9:00 p.m., J.D. Souther at 10:00, and Donnie Fritts and John Paul White at 11:00 p.m. With Jewel’s suitcase full of hits, JD Souther’s resume as a co-writer of some of the Eagles biggest hits, and a rare performance from former Civil Wars member John Paul White, this is sure to be the hottest ticket of the night.
The rest of the Americanafest weekend also got a major boost. Wednesday night was mostly set with performances by the likes of Los Lobos, Patty Griffin, and Joe Pug, but the ante was upped with the announcement of Watkins Family Hour at Mercy Lounge, in addition to a still unannounced surprise set. Watkins Family Hour is led by Nickel Creek’s Sean and Sara Watkins and features a cast of players that has included Fionna Apple and Benmont Tench of Tom Petty & the Heartbreakers.
The biggest addition to the Thursday lineup was the announcement of the artists performing in the customary late afternoon show at the Downtown Presbyterian Church. Opening that show at 6:00 p.m. is multi-instrumental legend Darrell Scott. He will be followed at 7:00 by husband and wife banjo virtuosos Bela Fleck & Abigail Washburn
On Friday, Cannery Ballroom was previously a TBA for the entire night. As one of Americanafest’s biggest venues, it was sure to get filled with some high profile acts and indeed it was. Opening up the night will be rising stars Madisen Ward & the Mama Bear. They will be followed by rockabilly superstar JD McPherson, singer-songwriter Josh Ritter, and multi-genre superstar Glen Hansard.
Saturday’s big show is the already announced show at Ascend Amphitheater featuring Loretta Lynn, Gillian Welch, Steve Earle, Nikki Lane, Tift Merritt, and Eric Heywood. This show requires an additional ticket, which can be purchased here.
