The American Music Awards 2015 live streaming and televised coverage arrives on Sunday evening as Jennifer Lopez hosts the latest star-studded awards show from Los Angeles, California. Big names will be on hand from the acting and music world to present, perform, and of course win awards. Top nominees include Taylor Swift, Nicki Minaj and The Weeknd, all of whom are looking to bring home the trophies. The AMAs live online and TV coverage starts with red carpet specials leading to the main show.
On Nov. 22, E! Online reported that Taylor Swift is tonight’s most-nominated artist as she has a total of six nominations for tonight. Among them are top awards like Artist and Album of the Year for “1989,” as well as nominations for her hit songs “Bad Blood” and “Blank Space.” New pop R&B sensation The Weeknd has a total of four nominations including Best New Artist, as well as nods for his song “Can’t Feel My Face” and album, “Beauty Behind the Madness.”
Swift is a part of the Artist of the Year nominees, competing against Ariana Grande, Nicki Minaj, Taylor Swift and One Direction. The Weeknd is up against Fetty Wap, Sam Hunt, Tove Lo and Walk the Moon for New Artist of the Year. There are also awards for the favorite pop/rock male and female musicians, as well as for country, R&B/Soul and Rap/Hip-Hop. Drake, Fetty Wap and Nicki Minaj will compete for the latter Favorite Artist award, while both Drake and Nicki are up against J. Cole for Favorite Album of the past year.
Other award categories for tonight includee Favorite Contemporary artists, Favorite Latin Artist, Favorite EDM Artist and Top Soundtrack. In the movie or TV soundtrack category, it’s “Fifty Shades of Grey,” “Empire: Original Soundtrack from Season 1” and “Pitch Perfect 2” competing for the prize. Collaboration of the Year is yet another interesting category as it features a song by Rihanna, Kanye West and Paul McCartney, Taylor Swift featuring Kendrick Lamar, and Jack U featuring Justin Bieber among others.
Speaking of Bieber, he’s among tonight’s performers and expected to perform two songs including his hit “What Do You Mean?” Others planning to take the stage are nominees such as Ariana Grande, The Weeknd, Luke Bryan and One Direction. Hostess J Lo will take time to perform, and Selena Gomez is also scheduled to perform, so it could create an interesting meet up between her and former flame Justin Bieber. Also as part of the presenters tonight will be recently single Kylie Jenner. There’s no word on whether Tyga will be in attendance.
The American Music Awards 2015 edition goes live as of 8 p.m. ET, although red carpet shows will begin around 6 p.m. as E! presents “Live from the Red Carpet” on the E! channel. The main awards show will be live on television on ABC starting at 8 p.m. ET with JLo hosting. For live streaming coverage, ABC Go is available for cable and satellite subscribers with access. To watch, viewers will need to confirm their location as the service is only available in seven major cities including Chicago, New York City and Los Angeles.
