There are many other happenings around town on Friday too. For example, you can enjoy Christmas in the 1860s at the Gettysburg National Park Museum between 10 a.m. and 4 p.m. This event will include exhibits and dance demonstrations by the Victorian Dance Ensemble, the performing troupe of the Civil War Dance Foundation (CWDF) in the Group Lobby. Exhibits include a showcase of photography, newspaper, jewelry, and fan displays of the era along with a tabletop Victorian Christmas tree. In the spirit of holiday giving, the CWDF will also have “Soldiers Boxes” on hand for donations to our military, and the VFW Auxiliary will collect and distribute these items to our troops. Requested donations include items such as memory games, tube socks, sweatpants and t shirts in dark colors, sizes L and XL, puzzle books, lap blankets, playing cards, regular sized toothbrush and toothpaste, shampoo, shaving cream and body wash. They will also collect monetary donations towards “Battle Buddies” where the donations are used in the purchase and training of dogs for veterans with special needs. The Gettysburg Foundation will give away free museum only tickets for those visitors who bring in donations and/or money needed for our deployed military. This non-ticketed event is free and open to the public. For more information on this event, click here.
