Pete Rose recently opened a new sports bar on the Las Vegas Strip, appropriately called Pete Rose Bar & Grill. While he might not be known for cooking, Rose is definitely a sports icon since Rose is the all-time Major League Baseball leader in hits, games played, at-bat, singles and outs.
In partnership with Hig Management, the company’s corporate executive chef Brian Littlejohn created the menu using responsibly-sourced ingredients. Part of the appeal, along with Rose’s memorabilia, is the three authentic menu items from the three cities where he play baseball.
First there is Cincinnati Chili, is a Mediterranean-spiced meat sauce on top of spaghetti pasta (a two-way). Toppings (ways) include onion, beans and cheese. If not from the Ohio-Kentucky-Indiana region, one might expect chili con carne which is not Cincinnati Chili. In fact, it is common to find chili parlors in Cincinnati that specialize in the dish that is now offer in Rose’s restaurant in Las Vegas.
Also on the menu is Philly cheesesteak, a regional food with a more national reach, to honor his time with the Philadelphia Phillies. A sandwich made from thinly sliced pieces of steak and melted cheese in a long roll is created to be so authentic as to believe one is now in Philadelphia.
Poutine, a Canadian dish made with French fries and cheese curds covered with light brown gravy, is on the menu for his time in the Montreal Expos. Popular in Canada, New England, the Pacific Northwest and Midwest as comfort food, Rose is looking to create an interest for those not familiar with the dish. Appetizers, sandwiches, other entrees and desserts are also available.
Executive Chef Brian Littlejohn has also created a breakfast menu available from 7 to 11 a.m. daily featuring omelets, eggs, sides and signature Home Plates.
Omelets include ham and cheese, Philly cheese steak, chili and cheese served with breakfast potatoes and toast. One can chose Rashers Irish bacon, bone-in ham steak, bacon or sausage as sides for eggs, breakfast potatoes and toast. Signature breakfast items feature Peanut Butter Cap’n Crunch french toast, apple cinnamon waffles, breakfast quesadilla, breakfast burrito and breakfast flatbread topped with bacon, arugula, cheese and fried egg. Yogurt parfait, muffins, rolls and fruit are also offered.
The 6,700-square-foot bar and dining room includes a full bar with an extensive selection of craft beers and signature cocktails and Strip-side patio with 32 high-definition televisions throughout. Pete Rose Bar & Grill is open from 7 a.m. to midnight daily featuring breakfast, lunch and dinner selections. Visit www.peterosebarandgrill.com for more info.
