Tom Bergeron was missing for the first time since his hosting duties began on “Dancing with the Stars” in 2005. Bergeron announced on Twitter on Sunday that his father is sick and he would be staying by his father’s bedside. Tom Bergeron also announced that he was leaving the show in good hands on Monday night. Tom announced that Alfonso Ribeiro would be his replacement, according to Hollywood Life.
Alfonso is no stranger to “Dancing with the Stars.” He became the champion of Season 19 with partner Witney Carson. Just last week he was a guest judge. After Oct. 5, he can add host of “Dancing with the Stars” to his resume. Alphonso hosted along with Erin Andrews during an emotional week when the celebrities chose a song that encompassed a memorable time in their lives.
According to CBS News, both Tom and Alfonso tweeted about the replacement. Tom tweeted that his father has given him so much support over the years, and it is time to return the favor. Tom also posted a photo of himself as a young child with his father. Alfonso also posted the photo and tweeted, “I will be filling in for @tombergeron tomorrow night on @dancingabc. I will be there with a heavy heart for my friend Tom and the Bergeron family.”
Alfonso, 44, and Tom, 60, have a great relationship. On March 12, 2014, Bergeron announced that he will retire from hosting “America’s Funniest Home Videos” after Season 25. Bergeron’s final episode aired May 17, 2015. Alfonso is the permanent replacement for Tom on “America’s Funniest Home Videos.”
