After many speculations that Alexander Wang would be terminating his tree-year term at Balenciaga. Today in a press release Kering the company that owns Balenciaga confirmed that legendary Haute Couture house will not be renewing their contract with creative director of the brand Alexander Wang.
“It’s been an incredible experience to work with couture house in Paris,” Wang said in a statement received in our inbox. “I am honored to have had the opportunity to work for this historical maison. I would like to thank the brilliant team at Balenciaga for their collaboration and for what we have accomplished together, and I am looking forward to taking my own brand to its next level of growth.
Balenciaga’s president and CEO, Isabelle Guichot, wrote that “ We are all at Balenciaga are extremely grateful to Alexander for his Important contribution to the style and history of this iconic house. The dynamic growth of the brand over the last years bears testimony to his successful creative work,”
CEO and chairman of Kering François-Henri Pinault said in a statement “I personally wish him the best.”
Wang’s sentiments imply that his departure does not come as a sore spot for the designer or the brand. The validity to the comments lends to confirm that Wang is leaving to devote himself full-time to his namesake brand, rumored to be on the brink of acquiring its first outside investor.
On an previews interview, Wang pointed out the lock of his social life in Paris and that he missed his friends. Not only being very talented, Alexander Wang has always been a free spirit individual and a social butterfly.
Alexander Wang for Balenciaga final show will take place on October 2, so we can expect fireworks in New York as we welcome him back and in Paris when his last collection is presented.
