In recent years past, the midday was spent with a refreshing repast of tea, cookies, cakes and little sandwiches. Today, we run from work to soccer practice, or wherever else from dawn to dusk. Take a respite from the “busy-ness” of life with a luxuriously, quiet afternoon tea, savoring delectables. Every Saturday afternoon Keswick Hall continues that old-world tradition of a midday refreshing repast for its guests and anyone else who gets a tea time reserved in advance.
Keswick Hall is a grand old dame of a hotel, dating back to the 1920s era. When you step foot on the property you do feel like you’ve taken a few steps back in time, when words like “Italianate designed property” were much more common place. Driving to Keswick Hall is itself a soothing adventure, taking in the rural countryside near Charlottesville. If arriving a few minutes early, one can strolling the grounds at Keswick Hall to work up an appetite, and to really soak in the experience. There’s a hunt club, horses, golfing on the property. As if that weren’t enough, there is also the food that Fossett’s prepares on a daily basis, which can only be described as exquisite and perhaps also organic and full-cream.
Tea service includes a tea of your choice, cream, lemon curd, butter, jam, savory sandwiches, and sweets. To get your reservations phone Keswick Hall Guest Services at 434-979-3440 and ask about Saturday tea reservations. While tea is offered most Saturdays, there are also special holiday teas and a Mother’s Day Tea that can fill up in advance. Make your plans accordingly. A regular tea service runs around $22 per person; the upgrade to a Mimosa and tea package runs closer to $30 per person.
