Careful what you divulge to your friendly Bartender after a few too many cocktails…’cause it just might end up online.
Actress-Creator Cheryl Texiera uses crazy customer antics as the basis for her latest comedy web series “Confessions of a Bartender.”
The series is definitely not aimed at Cheryl’s younger fans, who will recognize the actress as Sabrina Carpenter’s mom on the Disney Channel teen-focused sitcom “Girl Meets World” – but their parents might get a kick out of it.
Cherly Texiera serves up the details about her new web series and much more in our recent interview.
Give us an overview of your new comedy web series “Confessions of a Bartender.”
CHERYL TEXIERA: Confessions of a Bartender is the 3rd installment of my sketch variety show: Confessions of… The Series on YouTube.
It takes you inside the world of what it’s like to be a bartender with the use of jump cuts, flashbacks, comedic characters and a little song and dance. It’s all very silly and tongue in cheek. It’s like getting your daily dose of sugar, and moving on with your day.
What inspired you to create the project?
CT: Well, the Confessions of… series came out of really just wanting to create work for myself as an actor. I was bartending at the time I started it, and I always had it in the back of my mind that I would do a Bartender installment. Some customers are just too fantastic not to write about.
Are the episodes based on true tales or did you embellish a bit?
CT: Isn’t all comedy based on some sort of reality? Lol. Let’s just say, any bartender who watches the series would be hard pressed to deny this stuff actually happens.
What do you hope audiences take away from it?
CT: Enjoyment – of course! But also a bit of an insight to what we might be actually be thinking behind the bar. – And to anyone who thinks you’re putting one over your bartender, you’re not. We just might have a smile on our face because that’s what management told us to do.
If we could waive a magic wand and go back — is there anything you would do differently as the creator and star?
CT: Absolutely. I would write the script sooner. I had the idea for almost two years – and I kept all my notes – but I didn’t actually write the first draft of the script until I got clearance on the location – which was only a week before we shot! -Which is insane and I don’t recommend it.
You’ve also been starring on a very different comedy, “Girl Meets World” – how’s that going?
CT: It’s great! I’m in love with that cast. Everyone treats you like family. I think it might honestly be the friendliest set in town.
Anything else you’d like to share with our readers?
CT: Just enjoy the show!
