Actor Antonio Banderas has become the honorary President of Miami Fashion Week.
The President of Miami Fashion Week Julio Iranzo announced in a press release that he “Welcomes and thanks Banderas for his involvement and for becoming the honorary President of the international event”.
As we reported a few months ago, Banderas has become increasingly interested in fashion design even enrolling at London’s Central Saint Martins prestigious fashion school, where he just completed his first semester. Antonio is going to be launching a men’s fashion line next Fall under his own label Antonio Bandera’s Design in association with Danish company “Bestseller”.
Miami FashionWeek is starting its re-branding after Beth Sobol, longtime producer of the event along with a partner, sold their stake to European investors who are planning to expand the brand globally. Sobol and her partner produced the event for 17 years opening the door for designers from all around the world to showcase in Miami mainly from Latin-America. Under Sobol, the show was a stepping stone for many designers to launch their fashion businesses in the U.S. as she created fashion competitions, gave seminars and masterclasses about the fashion industry to educate them and help them grow.
The new group that is behind the Miami Fashion Week brand is called “The Fashion Shows” and they have an aggressive and strategic plan to relaunch the event next year 2016 after the sell put the event on hiatus this year and it was cancelled.
In a press release the famous actor is said to be “excited about his involvement in this new fashion project and to form part of the organizing team that includes the prestigious Runway Director Sergio Salerni, as well as teams in Miami, Milan , Barcelona and Madrid. Sergio Salerni has produced fashion shows and luxury events for some of the biggest fashion houses in the world including: Versace, Dior and Valentino among others in Hong Kong, Dubai, Sydney and New York just to name a few.
Miami Fashion Week President Julio Iranzo also said about Antonio’s involvement: “Antonio Banderas with his creative talent, network and charisma gives a new boost to Miami Fashion Week. We are at the point of renewal and relaunch to position the event to a higher dimension and become part of the TOP fashion circuit”.
Banderas said: “We are going to bring to fashion a new way of communicating. Unquestionably, Miami is a city in full swing with rapid growth in all areas that deserves to have a fashion event of the highest international level. This is for me a very exciting challenge indeed”.
With Banderas Hollywood clout Miami Fashion Week could be the next Top destination for fashion, this should be very exciting. Shall we say: New York, London, Milan, Paris and Miami??..We shall see.
