Although Florida State of the ACC hauling ahead from all start Heisman quarterback Jamie Winston and their all-star season, FSU’s football coach Jimbo Fisher is now dealing with issues within his organization, particularly his quarterback and returning running back facing battery charges. The coach stresses a no tolerance platform. He states his program has, “no tolerance for hitting women.” Both players are accused of hitting women at bars just after both received Florida’s Mr. Football awards for their outstanding football performance on the field. These incidents are not the only troubling news the FSU football program has faced in recent years. This toppled with previous negative publicity in the media, the coach says, “You, as the head coach, take responsibility and you continue to educate,…You’re judge by what you do,” quotes by the coach spearheading him to implementing preventive measures to help curb the troubling image the program is facing. These measures include banning his players from certain night clubs, enlisting the players in the Pass the Peace campaign created and started by Seattle star quarterback Russell Wilson, and completing education courses in domestic violence and drug and alcohol use and abuse counseling. Hopefully, by going through these preventive measures programs, players can better guard their behavior in public and private settings, and begin to reshape the Florida State University’s football program image.
At the 2015 ACC Football Kickoff at the Pinehurst Resort in North Carolina, Clemson coach Dabo Swinney and the ACC kickoff team favors the Clemson Tigers to win the league’s championship. In addition to having a player named preseason player of the year, the Tigers are obviously off to a good start. However, it is still early for most people. During preseason they are already scheduled to win the championship!? A hasty and gusty assertion by many, and as you can guess, things can change once the season gets full swing. Swinney says, “Whether or not we should be first or whatever, that’s for people to debate.” It is the Tiger’s fourth time being selected number one since Florida State University entered the conference in 1992. However, as preseason favorites, past chances have not been in Clemson’s favor. Clemson’s senior offensive guard Eric Ma Lain thinks the squad has a chance. Mac Lain states, “Sometimes it’s the luck of the draw. Sometimes it’s not. This year I think we have that championship caliber schedule.” Georgia Tech’s preseason hopes are alive as they are hailed to win the ACC Coastal Division title, however, falls into third place behind Clemson and Florida State to win the ACC Championship according to the kickoff team preseason stats.
