On the heels of the Center for Medical Progress (CMP) releasing undercover videos of Planned Parenthood Federation of America’s (PPFA) Medical Directors’ Council President, Dr. Mary Gatter, talking turkey regarding payments for undamaged organs from aborted children and then suggesting to use a “less crunchy technique” to get more intact organs, a renown abortion provider is crying foul over the term “baby parts”. As reported by The Washington Times on July 24, 2015, California-based OB/GYN Jen Gunter penned on the left-leaning New Republic magazine on July 23, 2015, to instead refer to the intact lungs, hearts, and livers instead as “products of conception”.
Gunter opined that the term “baby parts” to be medically incorrect. The abortion advocate also penned, “Calling the tissue ‘baby parts’ is a calculated attempt to anthropomorphize an embryo or fetus.” According to Merriam-Webster, anthropomorphize is defined as “to attribute human form or personality to things not human.” Gunter also stated matter-of-factly, “Using incorrect terminology isn’t just sloppy, it has a purpose — the babyfication of the embryo and it’s just one more back door way to erode choice.” By “choice,” Gunter ostensibly is referring to the abortion procedure.
However, there are those who take issue with Gunter’s rationale concerning her logic and choice to verbiage. As quoted by The Times, Denise C. McAllister of the conservative-leaning publication The Federalist countered, “you can call something by any name you like, but it doesn’t change the fact of what it is. While she thinks that’s just an accurate medical term, it’s really just dehumanizing babies to prop up the abortion industry.”
McAllister also noted that in response to The New Republic’s article, co-founder of The Federalist, Sean Davis, sent Gunter a tweet asking the logical question, “Are you not also a ‘product of conception,’ Dr. Gunter? If so, why is your liver a ‘body part’ but a younger person’s isn’t?” As cited and linked to by McAllister, the Twitter query from Davis resulted in his being blocked.
Yet Democratic presidential frontrunner Hillary Clinton stated in a South Carolina stump speech that she wholeheartedly defends Planned Parenthood. As reported by CBS News, Clinton stated to Greenville supporters, “I think it is unfortunate that Planned Parenthood has been the object of such a concerted attack for so many years.” Not alone, CBS News also cited in a separate report that Rep. Jan Schakowsky, (D-Illinois) called on the Department of Justice to investigate the CMP for the undercover video.
“This is a new low, even for anti-abortion activists who will stop at nothing in their effort to undermine a woman’s right to choose,” Schakowsky said in a statement Wednesday. “I believe the Center for Medical Progress may have broken the law in developing and executing this unbelievably elaborate and troubling scheme, and all Americans should have concerns about that. I hope that Attorneys General Lynch and Harris will investigate this case.”
However, despite PPFA’s Gatter admitting she wants “a Lamborghini” resulting from the sale of the organs, the CPM referenced that “The sale or purchase of human fetal tissue is a federal felony punishable by up to 10 years in prison or a fine of up to $500,000 (42 U.S.C. 289g-2)”. Gatter also was caught on video stating, “I wouldn’t object to asking Ian, who’s our surgeon who does the cases [abortion procedure], to use an IPAS [manual vacuum aspirator] at that gestational age in order to increase the odds that he’s going to get an intact specimen.” CPM also noted that “Federal law requires that no alteration in the timing or method of abortion be done for the purposes of fetal tissue collection (42 U.S.C. 289g-1).”
