After a hiatus since 2009, MTV has revived its successful dance show, “America’s Best Dance Crew” with all the winning crews returning to the stage with the exception of The Jabbawockeez and Poreotics for “America’s Best Dance: Road To The VMAs.” It’s an all new show with all new judges and new host. Quest Crew, Super Cr3w, We Are Heroes, IamMe Crew, Elektrolytes, along with a new crew, Kinjaz featuring members from The Jabbawockeez and Kaba Modern will be under watchful eye of new judges T-Pain, Frankie Grande and Teyana Taylor while host Jason Dundas keeps the show moving.
Tonight’s episode features the opening number of all the dance crews performing with music artist Ne-Yo as he belts out some of hit tunes.
During the first episode’s taping last week, this writer’s affiliate Front Row Features and Pacific Rim Video spoke to the Quest Crew, Kinjaz and Elektrolytes.
Examiner: Tell me what is the mindset, the second time around?
Sal Banuelos of Elektrolytes: Good. Amazing. We’re ready to go. I don’t, know. It feels good to be back on this stage again competing with these amazing, top caliber of crews. We just feel blessed to be back.
Examiner: You guys were the last champions to be on the ABDC stage. Do you feel you got a lot to prove?
Nico Banuelos of Elektrolytes: This season, we’re still the underdogs I feel like. We’re the last champions but these crews are so good. They’re amazing and we have so much respect for them. They’re definitely making us work.
Examiner: Quest Crew, you have some new blood in your crew?
Hok Konishi of Quest Crew: Right here we have Rudy and Jolee.
Examiner: Tell us what Quest Crew did for the return to ABDC?
Ryan Conferido: We did everything. Absolutely everything we could have done. We lost a lot of sleep but we gained a lot of momentum and we’re going to let out on stage today.
Examiner: Redfoo of LMFAO came by to support you guys. How does that feel?
Steve Terada of Quest Crew: Awesome. We did so many projects with them and toured with them so it’s amazing that he came out to support us.
Examiner: Kinjaz. Some of you have been on the ABDC stage while a few of you are new to ABDC. Do you feel you’ll be considered the new kids on the block. Are you excited to prove to everyone that you belong on the ABDC stage?
Ving Nguyen of Kinjaz: Yeah. I think so. In terms of representing our brothers and our community where we come from. We all come from different parts of California and different dance circles so exciting to come together as brothers to represent that.
Examiner: What are you guys going to aim for and showcase on the show that has Kinjaz stand out?
I think style wise were a blend of things that we like. I wouldn’t say there is a specific title or anything to it. I feel like we all just kind of vibe off of each other. A lot of the creative process is just bouncing ideas off of eachother. I think more importantly, we’re just excited to show what we’ve been working on.
“America’s Best Dance Crew: Road To The VMAs” airs tonight at 11pm/10central.
